Classical Music

I have to say that Classical Music is definitely in my top two favorite genres of music. Having taken quite a bit of ballet at this point I have really developed quite an ear for it. I would like to learn a little more about classical music and maybe be directed to some ingenious collections.

Guess what, everybody? I got to go to the Berlioz Requiem the other night! Beautiful! Glorious!! Ahhhh...I need to get more tickets! Next I want to go to see something by Dvorak. I am very in love with him at the moment. Especially his piano quintets. They are so wonderful. I really love classic piano. It is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful instruments...by itself and accompanied by orchestra.

So, Aya...you want some suggestions? Mozart. He is (or was..) the genius of geniuses. Really. No one like him...listen to ALL of his work.

And theres...Dvorak, Shostakovich, Rimsky-korsakov (who, as I discovered today, wrote the 'Lord's Prayer' that we sing in church..very beautiful), Tchaikovsky...As you can see, I am absolutely obsessed with russians. lol. They really are the greatest.

Dang, theres alot of classical music listeners out there. Well, I just found this thread, and I havent relly read much of it (internet use = 2$ an hour over here), so Ill just throw this out there...CARL ORFF RULES!

Someone said they like angry sacred music, so listen to O Fortuna (or O Fortuno), in the Carmina Burina piece? symphony? opera? that he did, also, Grieg rules too, as does Tchycowsky (who's name I just Butchered). Anyway, Hectorberlioz told me to come here, so, here I am, you wont get rid of me easy either!

Thanks for the spelling lesson ( ), I need all the help I can get in that area. Any Gustav Holst fans out there? I have only heard 'The Planets', and I was wondering if he wrote some other good stuff, I just never really looked (new Led Zepplin live cd/dvd caught my attention (not classical, but classic!))

Sorry, I can't imagine any way that any Italian could be said to be Mozart's rival unless he wrote operas, so I can only go with Cherubini. *shrug*

Muzio Clementi (he was a rival in opera, but his speciality was the pianoforte)

Hector! For shame! How can you expect anyone to be as genius as you at this? I, myself, have only listened to Handel when you put it on. And I don't remember what is was called or anything...hmm... I guess I'm not a very good classical music fan. Poor me! Nobody ever showed me the way! *weeps tears of self-pity*
