Aha! Further proof that you yanks and canucks are inbred weirdos! Bandanas on DOGS?! My god, if I'd tried to put a bandana on Brutus snr. - a rottweiller with an aggression problem - I'd be DEAD.

Gte off of it - You make NO sense. First it isn't a view. Either it's right or wrong. Okay. I was just supplying links - maybe they are wrong. The one does say that maps DO erroneously show magnetic south pole by the antartic. It's not a theory - it is either one or the other.

Quote:

My science textbook says that the magnetic SOUTH POLE is in canada - NOT THE MAGNETIC NORTH.

In fact, this makes sense.

How could the magnetic north pole be in canada, so close to the geographical noth pole? It is logical for the magnetic south pole to be in canada, and NOT the magnetic north.

I am no scientist though. The poles shift slightly every year.

I too, have found dozens of websites that say this -

http://isaac.exploratorium.edu/~paul...tic_globe.html

You all have search engines, so I won't bother with the links

another site:

and another site:

And then of course there was the quote I posted earlier from my SCIENCE TEXT BOOK. 1. I am not a scientist. 2. neither are you JD, or gollum, or you, GM (i dont think so). 3. im more willing to take the word of my SCIENCE TEACHER AND TEXT BOOK over you, especially since this was a question on a MAJOR EXAM. 4. magnetic north pole in canada makes NO SENSE. 5. it is a common mistake - people refer to the magnetic south pole as the magnetic north pole, which is not the case.

There is where the confusion lies I think. The magnetic south and north pole cannot both be in canada folks!

I have NOT done extensive research on this - maybe I and my trusty textbook are wrong. Ok, thats great. But practically all these websites just contradict eachother. can i hear from a scientist on this issue?

I have never heard of Baffin Island, but if a compass points to it, then it is magnetic south , not north.
You might as well get off of it - because I wasn't even arguing with you. I will repeat - the magnetic poles are NOT a theory. They exist and were NAMED by man - that means that they are one thing or another. It's not like scientists are stateding their opinions or feelings or something.

And of course both magnetic poles can't be int he same location. But they do swap places.

By the way - this must have been really bugging you since our IM discussion was 6 hours ago.

Hah. Brutus is the reason I'm not a dog person. *Looks fondly at all the scars that mangy bastard gave her* Besides, he wasn't a bandana dog... he was a sunnies dog.

Well since the poles reverse polarity over time, like a broken clock eventually everyone will be right.

No, I don't really care. This is a message board where you discuss things, so I am discussing.

It is you who makes no sense. Originally it was thought that geographic north pole was the same as magnetic north pole - this is not the case.

Yes the poles switch - but very slowly:

Quote:
..the magnetic poles of the Earth have reversed themselves completely many times throughout Earth's history - EVERY HALF-MILLION YEARS OR SO
So you see, this sort of thing does not just happen every dacade (duh, otherwise everything would be messed up).

I'm just trying to debate this logically.... I really don't care either way.

Just the magnetic south pole is drifting around North Eastern Canada......... poles only change VERY SLIGHTLY every year.

Your websites are probably wrong.

Magnetic north and south CANNOT be in the same place - or even same country...

According to Plate Tectonics and Geomagnetic Reversals (Cox) magnetic north is currently north.

Yes, a bar magnet points toward the south pole (in Antarctica).

No. They would fall off their ice skates and besides, a hockey stick is no match for a baseball bat.

Yes.

1) Becasue they are Canadian
2) Becasue hockey players often take up soccer in the summer after hockey season is over, and the baseball players would hardly have the chance to, because they are playing baseball all summer (unless they played in the winter....)

*hands BoP a lawn chair* Might as well make yer self comfortable, if you're going to stay.

you dont wear skates in soccer, and you dont use sticks and bats.

the Canucks would win because Baseball players play a sport where very little activity is needed, making the Canucks more physically fit to win the game

EDIT: This is my oppinion, and the question was only asked as a joke beacuse BoP said to get back to the Yankee/Canucks arguing or something

Okay, so it wasn't that funny.

Wouldn't it make sense for a soccer team from each country to play soccer?

You aren't really thinking hockey players are more fit. Baseball is 162 games plus pre and post season games. Hockey is played on ice. Baseball is played in the sun. Besides they do all that conditioning. The game that is played has little effect on conditioning. What matters is what their dogs wear.

there is barely any running in baseball, and i chose those to teams because BoP said Yank/Canuck fight, both names of pro sports teams in USA and Canada. I chose soccer because its a nuetral sport, and my favorite sport.
