Oh interesting!

There was this article in Reader's Digest about this baby born without speech ability...and the baby's caretaker was teaching him how to communicate....it was really neat.

That is seriously weird. I hope she'll be fine. >_<
Nerdy, you think that the voiceless talk is real? I think it would be cool in some ways, but when the guy started talking about the neckthing predicting what you would say so you wouldn't have to imagine saying it anymore, he kinda creeped me out. Too futuristic for me.
(And that comes from someone who'd love to take a trip to the moon, I know.)

Actually, I preferred Ann back in her "Sex in the City" days, when she made her rep as a New York party girl and occasional bed partner of Bob Guccione Jr. -editor of Spin and son of Penthouse publisher Bob Sr.- and was well known as the author of statements like "I'm single, and if I take a different man home every night it's nobody else's business".

That was before she figured she could squeeze more money out of of the rubes by pretending to be a Fundie Christian.

More bloodshed in Tibet
This keeps dragging on and on. In the current Tibet, Tibetans are outnumbered by Han-people 3 or 4 to 1. Therefore I don't see a future withdrawal of China from Tibet anytime soon. Besides, if they give in to Tibet, all the other separatists will try and follow their example, including Taiwan.
China is in a precarious situation with their internal security, even if it wanted to give up Tibet.
Still, why does a peaceful demonstration have to turn into this?

The sad fact is that peaceful demonstrations don't get you very far in a place like China.

Two hopeful signs:
1) The fact that we found out about this at all shows that the Chinese cannot control everything within their borders
2) With the Olympics coming up perhaps some pressure can be put on them.

Actually, China let out this information. They broadcasted it themselves, according to the Dutch news. Whether it is improvement or not, I'm not sure.
I don't think China can be pressurized into much concerning these things. The internal pressure might be bigger than the external pressures. The Chinese government is juggling to keep those two balanced.

I just want to notify everyone of a very interesting (continuing) conversation about religion and politics and how they mix, between E.J. Dionne (religious leftie, columnist for the Washington Post) and Hugh Hewitt (religious rightie, host of The Hugh Hewitt Show). I've listened to each hour they've done so far, one for each chapter of Dionne's new book.

You can buy Dionne's Book ("Souled Out: Reclaiming Religion After the Religious Right") HERE.

You can livestream Installment #5 tomorrow (Thursday), second hour of the show, starting at 6 PM CDT...HERE

It's a quality interview/conversational format. Very though-provoking discussion. Very much worth hearing. Don't miss it .

Thanks for the link, inked. Interesting to read the strategies "drink-soaked former Trotskyite popinjays" use to sleep at night

(Though I guess it belongs in the Iraq thread.)
