As do I. Counted among those are good friends, VERY close relatives, and my grandfather, who unfortunately died from a complication of his cancer.

I appreciate that, man. Good for your mom. Really. One of my aunts had metastatic melanoma, but she made that. It's a good feeling, but the scare always persists.

Mom, grandma and aunt all had cancer at one point (different kinds). Thankfully they're all alright now, but I've known too many people who haven't been. Good going for you walkers!

There are so many types of cancer and so many people who have it... I think it'll be difficult to find someone who hasn't been in contact with it, either through loved ones or themselves.
Good luck Sas, Lady R! It isn't international cancer day now is it? I haven't heard anything about it on the radio...?

Yes, Mari, that's unfortunately very true. I'm lucky that nobody in my immediate family has died of cancer (crosses fingers), but I know many people who have. There was a girl a few years behind me in school who died of Leukemia, and one of my best friend's mother died of ovarian cancer, and I could go on and on and on, unfortunately. My hometown has a very high instance of cancer - way above the national average.
I speculate this has something to do with the fact that we're less than five miles from a US government proving ground where they used to test bombs and shells and the like - many of which were made with depleted uranium, and many of which are still there. (read the link for more...'DU' is "depleted uranium" and JPG is "Jefferson Proving Ground.") In other news, the day when I have to walk downtown to go shopping it's pouring down rain. Joy.

Really? We have lovely weather here! Sun is out, temperature is quite okay. A great day for yet another open campus! Though if I like this place and decide on it, my uncle/cousin/ whatever he is will keep trying to talk me out of it for months. (Too low a level for you, no challenge, too big a change from your previous studies, no masterdegree, an even higher debt, blablabla. I got that the first 7 times you told me that, thank you.)
Soooo, cup of tea anyone? Helps me wake up in the morning.

It was the same story every day in Japan, in the rainy season... I looked especially silly in my school uniform on my bike holding an umbrella. Or did it just look normal?
My aunt has lung cancer, I just found out. It might turn out very badly, but I don't really know yet. Like you said Mari, hard to find someone who hasn't been affected in some way. Oh, we cross posted. >< |

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt, katya... I hope everything works out.
Back from downtown, and I didn't get wet. I took a bus there, and then it had stopped raining by the time I got back. Now I just need to do some laundry and pack and I'm ready to leave for Belgium tomorrow!

Oh, I'm not terribly picky - I'll read pretty much anything.
Today I got a Terry Prachett book for my trip...and a beautiful paperback copy of Lord of the Rings... Hey, I don't have my copy with me in Derry. But I have everything from politics to history to romance to Sci Fi to classics on my bookshelf. I was going to reply to you in the 2008 Election thread, but I think I may hold off on that. EDIT: Blech...I'm so tired and achy even my toenails hurt...

What did you do to your toenails?
I'm a virtually lazy beast, today. I may stroll out to the hammock.

Thank you for sending your rain over to me Curufin... >_<
I saw some lovely parts of the Netherlands today, parts I'd never seen before. So, where is the tea? Did anyone make fresh tea yet or do I have to make a new pot myself?

Oh yes please! You are too good for us all Sis!
*sits back and enjoys the warmth of the cup on her hands and the smell of fresh tea* *gets up only to whack the rule before sitting down and relaxing again*
