Green Tea ice cream sounds yummy, Lotesse. I have never tried it.
I am a huge fan of green tea, which (the Earl Grey flavored variety) helped me get through this horrible 4 week flu type sickness. It was the only thing I could handle on my stomach.

Then you, Tree Dweller, of all people would really love & benefit from green tea ice cream! Especially if you're not feeling well; it's nice and gentle on the tummy and isn't too offensively sweet. Trader Joe's sells it, if you have a trader joes near you, and Whole Foods, too.

Hey, I love miso soup! I have some instant kind that I need to eat before I leave, but I make it myself sometimes too. It's not too hard, I'm sure you could do it, Lotesse. Just buy a little tub of miso and lots of vegetables, and I like tofu in mine too. I suppose there's different ways to make it.

Miso is easy. Oriental markets carry the mix and you just add water. It's just like you get in Japan. Regarding the Green Tea Ice Cream, yep, we had it in Kyoto a few years back.

I found some decent, simple miso soup recipes online this afternoon, it's not as complicated as I'd thought. All I need is the miso paste, some dashino-moto for the stock, some tofu and some wakame, and I'm gonna add leeks as well.

Hey you guys, I just opened a bottle of Syrah - anybody care for a glass?

I have three packets of instant miso to eat before I leave, and I can share if you like. ^_^ It's not as good as the homemade stuff by it's good none the less. There's lots of nori in it. Yum.

I hope to learn lots of good Japanese cooking when I'm gone.

Be sure to try as many different "soba" bowls as you can. Each village has it's own way of making them and they are almost all terrific. Safe journey.

Well, just got back from Whole Foods with a bunch of miso soup ingredients; will be making it tomorrow. Hey Katya, have a fantastic time in Japan, you lucky girl! See if you can moot a little while you're there, and tell us all about it. And photographs, too!

Good night, all...

And now it's breakfast! The japanese enjoy miso soup for breakfast, I read, and last night I got some shiro miso, some wild atlantic kombu, scallions and silken tofu, and here I am now having it for breakfast! It's o.k., a bit mild I guess, but I've got plenty ingredients left to continue revising and improving upon this recipe here. I'm starting to sound like I need to be in the "cooking" thread... Well, anybody here care for some breakfast miso? It's quite good, and tres, tres healthy.

I know, it HAS been ages, Pytt! Good to see you, and yes, help yourself to the miso soup. It's surprisingly filling, that's one of the cool things about miso soup. And it has a grip of kombu seaweed in it. I'm a seaweed junkie; I once ate a tiny tuft of seaweed that was growing on a rock at some beach in northern california. Onlookers thought I was a nut-job, and my dad said I'd get sick, but - don't knock it 'till you try it, I say!

Lotesse: Hehe. I have tasted it myself sometimes. It isn't that bad. Only very salt. *tastes soup* Um. Delicous. Why have I been gone so long? I haven't tasted food like this for a looong time. But now that summer is passing, sadly, I will have more time for mooting again. I hope so at least.

The soup, a bit of salad and a fried fish are also part of rural Japanese breakfasts. After a bit, Cheerios start looking better.

Grey Wolf, I am very curious - what is this you just ordered, is it a regional Swedish dish of some sort? How would I google it to find out more? I'm feeling so curious today!

For everyone's info:

I had smoked chicken, cheese and mixed peppers in a toasted tramazini, and a slice of that insanely smooth chocolate mousse cake for lunch today.

Off to bed I go.

That sounds good, Andúril.

I just finished making a batch of almond flavored pizzelles. Here are some virtual ones for the cafe
