I've some questions to ask the script-writers: What parts will you keep/throw away? Since the plan is to make a more accurate version than PJ's, we'll have to keep more to books, but there are still some scene I'm not sure will be good on the big screen (Bombadil is good in the book, but it'll take some seriousness away from the movie if we keep him...still, I can imagine him on the big screen).

Any ideas?

I don't thihk Bombadil should be in there - but it would be cool to have a small thing with the Old Forest and Old Man Willow and the Barrow Downs (with Tom Bombadil). Overall - I think that Bombadil should be removed. He just doesn't fit in with the rest of the book and overall is a minor character.

Hmmm. That's exactly what Jackson did. I personally don't think his 'clean lift' was very effective. Our version of FotR could easily be 6 hours long, but who cares? It will be watchable. My vision is a movie not for the Un-Tolkienated. (You don't have to have read the books to enjoy our movie, just have the ability to watch a long movie, in parts, and stick with it over time.)

You of all people should support keeping Tolkien's characters.

The Old Forest and the Barrow-downs are an important part of the story.

it'd be great to have tom bombadil, but as JD said, he's not crucial to the story. though it would be interesting to mention him in the council.

harpists-vive berlioz!!!!!!!! . I really am sorry, Harp in after all.
I cannot allow it beyond lorien though. lorien has harp. thats it though.

I was basically saying keep the Barrow Downs and the Old Forest in. Even a small part of Tom Bombadil - but no need to go to his house. I guess I didn't make this very clear.

And I disagree that the movies have to be 6 hours long - to keep them closer to the books.

You sher talk perty.

Well, I'll have to consider the feelings of my co-writers, but I was going to keep Tom. It looks like the director thinks he could be in, so I'm going to write the scenes, and we'll make sure it works well within the rest of it all. I really want to see Goldberry and I think we could do a great camera shot of Tom's eye through the Ring. Basically, we'll err on the side of doing it all, film it, cut what is necessary for length, and include the rest on the extended dvd.
Since kiwi's footing the bill, money is no object, right?

Thanks, Nurvingiel I just love playing it - I could play for hours! And it's definitely the major elvish instrument, too - it's mentioned a lot in the Sil.

I think Tom Bombadil should be kept as well, for reasons I've already mentioned.

I had an idea - we should refer to our version as "Entmoot's Lord of the Rings" (as opposed to Bakshi's LotR, for example) and all put our positions in the movie in our signatures, along with a link to this thread. It will advertise our movie in other threads, and encourage other Mooters to come help us!

Hector -- Oui.

I agree, no prologue per se, but I'll get back to you on this. There are things we'll include within the film at different times refering to earlier times, and probably some flashbacks. But I haven't envisioned the beginning scenes yet. BTW, where's our stipend? We scriptwriters can't live on nothing, you know.
