Wow, people! We have a hidden (?) treasure here! I really like your work, Rosie (really good portraits), Lady MM (great, funny details.. ) and Huorn (so nice.. the faces, with their expressions.. really good).. More, more!

Major EDIT: and Eärniel! How could I forget to mention yours.. It's so cool, I love it. It shows that you've really worked on the background.

Huorn, I like your Ents and Huorns! Especially the first Oak-Huorn. My attention was immediatly drawn to the eye. Pretty. All those leaves must have been some work too. I bet your green and brown pencils have been replaced once or twice by now as well.

So that's three (current) artists, minus me? If we can get a few more, we could hold a new Entmoot art contest.

The male on the left is no character of mine but Maglor after the 60's got to him. The instument is supposed to be a ukelele and yes, that is a joint stuck in the snorkel-mask band.

Long time since i drew.

used to enjoy it ...mmm maybe i should take up a sharp pencil one time ... indeed make the time...

I wondered if there wasn't a lot to read into that picture Eärniel ... on many levels, espcially the very controlled and neatly done exactitude of lines and thus feeling on the background, yet i preffered more the soft subtle meaning of the owl face ...

you sense almost a contented but enclosed light in the scene yet an almost wistfull and barely repressed desire to experience raw emotions and to bend forever all straight lines that contain and constrain the inner artist in expressive strokes...

also Entwife's too... but in entirely different ways

Earniel, I finally found your art piece. I didn't see it earlier. It is very rich in detail. IT makes me wonder-does this woman want to hide who she is? The owl mask add a very interesting touch to the picture. It make the woman seem anonymous.

My artwork

If you all didn't know, I am an aspiring cartoonist. So here is some work:

What stunning in artwork in this thread! I must say that I have finally seen the first believable drawings of Ents since I first read The Two Towers over 30 years ago. There are some extraordinarily talented people here at Entmoot.

Klatty, did you do those cartoons you posted the link to somewhere (forget where)? I really like them; the staring game was superb, and the one on the website about the honeymoon also. Very Farside-esque humour.

Tel, that is REALLY good!

Yes, I draw mostly portraits. I've tried some other stuff... a pair of old dancing shoes once. And I did a 'scene' (I guess it could be called that) a few years ago... I've got it posted here somewhere, I think; I'll try to find it.

Watercolour? I've thought for a while of getting into that. Would you post some of your paintings?

Huron: I LOVE the ents!! To tell the honest truth, I had a hard time swallowing them when I first read TTT. Never could quite get past tree-people without thinking of those idiotic trees in The Wizard of Oz. But yours are really good! I love the last one of Treebeard; nice!

LMM: I like the colouring on your stuff! The blending's really nice; doing colour has always been a problem for me.

Telly: WOW! 'Aspiring cartoonist'?? You're there, man! Those are fantastic!

I checked out the most recent entries, Rosie Gamgee and Huorn. The portraits were great Rosie, I liked especially the second one with the girl, the lips reminded me of someone I know. Isn't that the girl from the sci-fi tv series "firefly?"

The ents where very cool. I liked especially the close ups, the eyes reminded of what was said of them in the book.

Telcontarion, Wow! Your cartooning is great. It looks like something you would find in a comic book.

Rosie, The last pic is based completely on Tolien's textual discription of Ents. Tolkien didn't actually put branches and leaves on true Ents. The 'tree' things were Huorns and Limb Lithe Trees.

Yes--Tolkien didn't describe them as really treeish, did he? I think mostly of his description of them looking rather like trolls, only with no visible neck. ...and not very bendable.

Here's that 'scene' I was talking about: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...rTam/ardale.jpg It has many problems; her neck's too long, her hands are too small, the fabric of his cloak falls terribly.. I haven't done any 'wide shots' like this since then, either. And I don't usually like to do multiple people in a pic. It's harder to get the proportions right when more than one person is involved, and I also like being able to catch just one person's expression... I like people alone. *shrug*

Yes; River. I think the lips are the part of that drawing that I disliked the most.

Hey, Telly: did you take classes for what you do?

Rosie, you will have to reload the image onto Photobucket. I just get the dumb little box that says the image has been moved or deleted.

Well, aren't we anti-social?

I get the same thing as Huorn, Rosie.

The_telcontarion, those are very interesting. I never imagined you drew as well.

Sure. Bear in mind, though, that I tend to use watercolour as ordinary paint and usually put it on rather thickly. Not at all like those beautiful, dreamy watercolour sceneries people usually link with watercolour.

I couldn't see the link, but drawing hands too small is a problem that I still haven't solved entirely. A lot of my older work has tiny hands, or hands hidden behind clothes, scarfs and anything else that could cover them because I didn't want to draw them.

My penultimate work: . Just as the Owl-faced lady was an excercise in background detail, this one was an excercise in light and shadow, another of my weak points.

Very nice, Earniel. I don't think there were female satyrs, though...

Earniel,

I really like that painting. Like Gwai said, perhaps there were not any female Satyrs according to mythology, but it is a fun thought. Ditch the mythology. It is a nice painting. It gives the painting more of a C.S. Lewis feel. I loved the world of C. S. Lewis.
