No, sorry Radagast. You are not very close at all. Here is the riddle posted again for your convenience...
Upon a high hill overlooking the haven a crystal crowned pillar stands tall and white. Reflecting sunlight and moonlight to be seen from afar. A monument to a mariner, leader of a mighty host. In memory of victory over great evil. Cast down when evil returned. I am looking for a two part answer. Where the monument was located and what it comemmorated. |

the monument of Finrod Felagund? (I think it's in Tul Sirion) Isildor's (or Elendil's... I forgot) hidden monument in Gondor? |

Is it the tallest tower of the tower hills?
book passage from Prlogue: It is possible that the craft of building, as many other crafts besides, was derived from the Dúnedain. But the hobbits may have learned it direct from the Elves, the teachers of Men in their youth. Fro the Elves of the High Kindred had not yetforsaken Middle-Earth, and they dwelt still at that time at the Grey Havens away to the west, an in other places in reach of the Shire. . Three Elf-towers of immortal age were still to be seen on the Tower Hills beyond the western marches. They shone far off in the moonlight. The tallest was furthest away, standing alone upon a green mound. my guess is the bold part of the passage but includes all of the passage

That is a great guess Adrian Baggins! You had to do some digging for that answer. Unfortunately, it is not the right answer.

Didn't intend to be mean. Sorry if anyone is offended.
As for the Turambar monument, that is not correct. The monument was in Middle Earth, built after Beleriand sank beneath the waves. That should narrow the number of "mighty host"(s) for y'all to guess from. editors note: My compliment to Adrian Baggins' effort for trying to solve my riddle is genuine. I was not mocking him / her. Has Keith K accidently swallowed his Tolkien books or something? Or maybe he just flipped through the Silmarillion for a while until he found some obscure object to put in a riddle!

Yes, it is obscure, but the riddle is my creation. I can make any riddle I want to and this time I have chosen to create an obscure one. Would you care to guess? Radagast, it is not Aragorns monument. Here's another clue: It was constructed late in the Second Age and stood well into the Third Age (its destruction date is not documented). |

It is not the tree Adrian Baggins, it is an actual monument. It was a white pillar with a crystal on top that reflected light that could be seen far out to sea. It was built on a hill overlooking a haven in Middle Earth. It comemmorated a major event in the history of ME.

Is it at Umbar - but was cast down during the Kin-Strife. It was the tower/monument to commemorate the humbling and capture of Sauron by Ar-Pharazon. It was a large crystal globe atop a tower structure. That's about all I can recall of it.

Here's another riddle I have prepared for y'all:
Old tunnels for storage birth a new prison. Flames of rebellion not yet arisen. To generate fear and silence dissent, those who would fight are quickly here sent. |

Um... Moria?
Here's my new riddle: The shadow great, across the land, Will new evil create, From the White Hand. Very non-related to the answer, but it was the best I could do.
