indeed it does for me too - but Ive actually taught one of my American friends with this method and with sound-clips w sentences. I have a whole batch of them.

Jag talar inte svenska = I don't speak Swedish

Btw, I couldn't help but notice a little error in your French on the previous page. It should be "Je ne parle pas français" (= I don't speak French) and nothing else

My German is sketchy, but I'm thinking more along the lines of: "Ich spreche kein Deutsch." But it is a gut-feeling more than knowledge.

Ah off course je parle vours parlez, hehe. It's been a whille. I have to start brushing up on my French if I want to study in Switzerland next year

I thought it was : Ich spreche kein Deutsch. I always mix up the use of sollen, können and darfen.

Did you know there are around 6900 languages in use on this planet? I don't intend to learn them all, but I wonder how many speakers a language must have to be considered as an active language.

Well, they say a language dies out every two weeks, so all you have to do is wait long enough and you only have to learn a handful.

Ah I see. I want to learn Russian as well. My field of research is the Russo-Japanese relations, both cultural and political, but since I can't read/speak Russian, that kind of limits my resources. Actually, there aren't too much resources anyway, since there aren't many scholars in that particular field. That's why I am guaranteed a position at the university and funding should I want to continue in this area. Which I don't...

Yes, and they're dying out quickly. They will be reduced to half that number in just a few years iirc.
