OMGoodness, Samantha just had babies!!
(Samantha is one of our dwarf hamsters) This is NOT supposed to happen - they only sell female hamsters, so this won't happen. I guess a male happened to sneak by! Anyway, my guess is that Junior is the culprit, because Tinkerbell and Samantha lived together for several months without anything happening ... it's only since Junior joined the mix that Samantha just seemed to be getting fatter and fatter and FATTER ... (gee, mom, Samantha sure is fat! She must eat a lot!) Luckily we had Samantha isolated because Junior had a case of wet-tail and he was isolated first but when we put him back with Tinkerbell and Samantha, Samantha (who was so incredibly fat! Gee, she must eat a lot!) kept fighting both of them (I know, this is TMI...), so we isolated Samantha for a few days, and BINGO - Samantha has babies! Anyway, the pet store people said to keep Sam and babies separate so the babies don't end up as snacks for the other hammies. So we've almost doubled our hamster population! They're so tiny - just the size of the top joint of a woman's little finger ... Fun! I hope they do OK. They can leave their mom after 22 days, so we might give them to a cousin.

Yes she should be in the picture, we'd be very very bad people if we left out our resident golden-ringleted gollum.

Oo, baby hamsters, Ri! How great! Two related stories: I remember a friend of mine found two five-day old kittens that had been abandoned by their mother, one black, and one white, and kept them in his room. It's not allowed to do so (and the head prefect is actually sitting right next to me as I type ), so that was a fun little excursion into crime. I had a hamster I remember who got really fat, but I think she had a tumour or something, and she died.

Awww, cuties . I love little baby animals or children. So cute . Just adorable. Don't spoil the baby children too badly, but do spoil the baby animals. Spoiling baby animals turns them really brash, and they're even cuter that way . My guinea pigs are, anyhow. They think they own the place, and that's just hilarious.
*Disappears under all the tribbles. Speaks in a muffled voice.* Though spoiling them can be taken too far, I guess . . . *Spits out hair.*

Ooh, baby hamsters! This story reminds me of my cousin's guinea pig. She had a baby not long after they bought her. Must have been kept together with males in the shop...

I may not be back on the Moot for a bit - out-of-townness, family stuff, and my middle son's ear surgery on Monday ... Have fun! *falls asleep in chair*

Yep, Gwai, I like pipes personally. But I was raised around them, and like the smell of pipe tobacco. Buch better than Hooka or cigarrettes. Bleh. But nicotine is nicotine. Gah.....
