It's in one of the Appendices - there's a genealogy of the Dwarves, and it goes from Durin VI to Durin VII, via Dain... therefore, it must be Durin VI that was the last before Dain

As to you question, I have no idea.

FYI - their sister, Firiel, married Arvedui - whose father Araphant was King of Arthedain / Arnor. And, according to UT (to fill in all the gaps) they were 3 years apart in age.
