I'm almost positive the answer is Beleriand, which was broken after the battle between the armies of Valinor and the forces of Morgoth. Hah!

Is it from LotR, or could it possibly be the Hobbit?
And we aready said it wasn't the hobbits...but was a hobbit (or two) some of the people involved who AREN'T the answer to the riddle?
