Just remember that the answer to the question "why?" is "why not?" and you'll do fine, short papers and get really good grades which are of course meaningless in themselves being given artificial value in a society which aggrandizes itself to have best and brightest in every field of endeavor so that all meaning is egual ,,, unless you believe in spelling and punctuatuion.

And the comma splice trend, which I may have cornered the market on use of; I love splicing my sentences, I know how awful it appears and how unschooled, but I cannot seem to want to break the habit; well, Hemingway did it, why can't I, I ask myself, usually with a snide and reproachful answer to myself, which I shall not bore you with.

Hemingway was Hemingway. You are merely Lotesse. Therefore, the wise man says, break the habit which demeans your abilities and hinders greatness.

Never. I will never conform. I will check myself before I wreck myself; however, I will never conform.

Hume

" What must a philosopher think of those vain reasoners, who, instead of regarding the present scene of things as the sole object of their contemplation, so far reverse the whole course of nature, as to render this life a passage to something farthur; a porch, which leads to a greater, and vastly different building; a prologue, which serves only to introduce the piece, and give it more grace and propriety? Whence, do you think, can such philosophers derive their idea of the gods? From their own conceit and imagination surely. For if they derived it from the present phenomena, it would never point to anything farthur, but must be exactly adjusted to them. "

- David Hume, from An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding

Who is too cynical - David Hume, or Spock? BTW, Hume was far from cynical.
