Wish me luck. Tomorrow is the day we perform the Saint-Saens Oratorio during the Presbyterian services. I get three chances to 'shine' :P.
It's a good experience, I guess... It's sort of like getting to sing a solo, but not quite so exposed (I'm in a quartet and quintet). It's kind of harder than a solo though because you have to listen to the other singers so carefully, and it's a lot harder to keep your melody in your head... at least for me. When I do solos I don't typically have to worry about someone else singing a wrong note and throwing me off . I'm excited though! We get to do it with a small ensemble... It's about 8 string players, a harpist (!!!!) and then of course the organist. |

Since I can't sleep, I thought I'd mention something that I'd forgotten before... it's pretty wild and crazy .
I'm actually singing at the same church with the lady who gave me my first voice lesson (my first lesson after my voice changed, anyways... apparently my sisters and I had a few 'group' lessons with a guy when we were young). When I was about 15 I had decided that I really, really wanted to be a good singer, so I asked a professional singer that I knew (a counter-tenor) if he thought I had any potential. He said he didn't know, but I should go sing something for a friend of his, who was a wonderful voice teacher. So he gave me her number and address, and I went to go see her. I sang something for her, and she gave me a few tips and said that she really couldn't predict what my voice would do, but that it sounded as if I had a good instrument at the time and just needed to learn how to use it. She did warn me that as my voice continued to change, it might either start sounding better, or worse just by nature. Some people have naturally full, rich voices, others have naturally thin or twangy voices. She was a little too expensive though, so a while later I started taking from another voice teacher (and in retrospect I really wish I'd have sucked it up and taken from her... my voice could be in a totally different place right now, but ah well). But now we're singing in the same choir. She vaguely remembered me, which was surprising since I honestly didn't think she'd recall me after only one lesson. I think she mostly remembered me because her friend had referred her to me, and he was an unusual guy (professional sopranist... sounded a LOT like a woman, and didn't really have that 'counter-tenor' quality most counter-tenors have). |

*With the opening of FRS the Mooters may now get locally produced meat and poultry cured and cooked according to the methods of the olden times. The Cooking Monster was thrilled at the newly installed AGA stove and immediately began preparing a feast of delicacies and desserts with ardent help of the DDM.*

Oh wow, Tessar! BEST OF LUCK!!! *sends wellwishes and virtual flowers for afterwards*
That's a lovely oratorio by the way. I like Saint-Saëns. BoP, that recipe looks good. I think I might try it too sometime. Maybe for New Years Eve!!! I think I just made a plan. Thanks! ^_^ Katt... you do realize that to escape the wrath of the horrible snowmen, you just have to stick around the fire, right? *sits warm and comfortable by the fire herself reading through some information for school while listening to an interesting Christmas CD*

*The Horrible Snow Monster, who is really a benign and friendly creature, wanders around the Cafe grounds which is covered in the white fluffy stuff. He mopes a bit at the harshness of the world and his undeserved malignant rep.*

Bah humbug.

Yeah, he didn't write much in the way of Oratorios, and from what I understand the ones he did write are just about never performed. It was a great opportunity . I've always been a fan of Saint-Saens.

Well the most interesting part is that he was vehemently anti-religion. A Sartre before Sartre, in a way. But of course he did write a few masses and religious pieces. Afterall, he was the organist at the Sainte Madelaine...

SATs suck . I remember studying for mine was the last thing I wanted to do. Put it off as long as I could...

Anyone remember me talking about my teacher, Mr. Norman? So much has happened. He was charged and all of this stuff. Well, I just read on www.wjz.com, that he was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head. He was so messed up. I dont know if I feel sorry for him or not. Why anyone would want to commit suicide I have no idea, it's really sad, actually.

Anyway.. update on my road trip. It's not a road trip anymore. It's a plane trip. Which definitely sucks. My parents freaked out on me and absolutely would NOT let me drive. It was an explosive afternoon. However, my mom finally got my dad to concede to let me go if I took the train or a plane. I was going to take the train (this time of year, it's so obviously cheaper than a plane), but my mom suggested that I check for a plane ticket just in case, and I found one ROUNDTRIP for fifty dollars cheaper than the train ticket would have been. I realize that doesn't include baggage check and such, but it also saves me about twelve-ish hours either way! I was excited to have found the plane ticket. First time on a plane by meself. Woo hoo!

Hehe, too bad you can't drive, but going on a plane isn't too bad either. But ugh, I hate the landing part. So you will be going alone? And why there and not somewhere else?
BoP, if they look edible, I will!

Well, I'll be flying into Denver on the morning after Christmas...
I'm visiting a friend. My parents were worried about snowstorms which aren't really supposed to be there... go figure.
