My favourite series are :
Escaflowne (and the movie, too...gorgeous art...and it's Yoko Kanno composing!)
Cowboy Bebop (more great music by Yoko Kanno)
RahXephon (cool music...pretty intriguing story. NOT a ripoff of Evangelion, and who cares anyway, even if it were. We're talking about anime here...most of the mainstream series are the same stories over and over again...it's really the artist that makes it unique.)
Perfect Blue (freaky)
Blue Submarine #6
Ghost in the Shell (I really want to read the manga....but, more awesome music...Kenji Kawaii <3 )
Serial Experiments Lain (weird...)
All of the ones from Studio Ghibli (Grave of the Fireflies, Mononoke Hime, Spirited Away, Totoro.....)
...And so many more

Subs all the way. Dubbing stinks!

Happy am I to be going home to jooly old WA this summer!

Watase Yu (Fushigi Yuugi) is an incredible artist.
Nye...she's okay...her stories drag on for me...but who am i to talk when i like hanakimi?

Takahashi Rumiko is pretty good too (I like Inuyasha). I don't watch or read that much else, though...
Yeah, i like her earlier work best: Mermaid saga....it's so bloody in a gothic horror kind of way...

I haven't seen much anime (yet!), but what I have seen I usually like (even if it is mindless fluff!) ^^; I've see Fruits Basket, and I thought it was so sweet...
um, I've also seen Juuni Kouki (sp), Samurai Champloo, Magic Knights Rayearth, and Samurai Deeper Kyo... although I've missed chunks out of all of them. Now I'm watching Pretear, Spiral, and Get Backers. Oh, and I've seen some short OVA's like Gunsmith Cats, and a one episode OVA called Voices from a Distant Star... which had (imho) gorgeous animation...

I want to see Cowboy Bebop, because it's such a ... classic. i also want to see Princess Mononoke...

Cowboy Bebop is really cool, both the books and the movie, hmmmmm. Has anyone seen Metropolis?? That was really cool, and Akira is awesome, though I'm not sure if that is anime.....

Are you asking if Akira is anime? Most definitely. As long as it's not liveaction you're talking about. The only forms of Akira I know of are the movie and the manga series.
Metropolis, however, has had several film incarnations....

Wow, it's been a long time since anyone's posted (I mean, aside from the past few days.) Is anyone here going to Otakon in Baltimore, MD ?

I love Vampire Princess Miyu!

I also like Sailor Moon and DragonBallZ, but I prefer the mangas over the TV series. For Sailor Moon, the art is better, and Haruka and Michiru are not depicted as cousins ( ), and for DragonBallZ, the pacing is much better. (Last time on DragonBallZ...... 5 minutes of current episode... Next time on DragonBallZ... )

I love Akira, I've only seen the movie.

Good Housekeeping is a cool manga as well. It's drawn by Akira Toriyama, the creator of DB and DBZ. ^.^

Wow, people have posted and I missed it! I'm not going to Otakon or any other convention for that matter, but I really wish I could. There just aren't any good ones in my area. I wanted to go to Ohayocon earlier this year because Steve Conte was there, but I didn't have a ride.

I just got into Furuba (Fruits Basket, of course) in the past month or so. I thought the story sounded stupid, but it's a really good series! And furthermore, I think the anime is just as good as the manga, which is rare! Even the english dub acting isn't too bad- I watched in English so I could watch with my mom- which is crazy. Furuba is a very easy to like anime.

Other than that, I just finished watching the second season of Saiyuuki again. I'm behind in getting the manga, since I'm broke. And I finally rebought my Tokuyama Hidenori CD that someone stole! (I know what you're thinking- who in their right mind would steal a Tokuyama Hidenori CD? Well, it happened to be in my Walkman at the time..) I love this CD so much. Oh yeah, and also I like the vocal albums 1-3. I looooove "Touch", which is sung by Morikawa Toshiyuki who does the voice of Homura! He's not as good as Seki-san but the song is cute somehow.

You know, it's weird- I didn't really like Spirited Away too much, and I think Akira was a little over-rated too. But, I found a site with the script to Mononoke-Hime in Japanese characters, Romaji, and English, so I'm using it to practice translating, even though I've never seen the movie. And after doing some translations, I want to see it.

Nurvi, you're right about DBZ! You could watch every other episode of it and not miss anything- you'd get the first half of everything you miss in the "next time on..." and the second half in "last time on..." and the guy who does those sounds so funny! The way he say "next time on Dragon, Ball, Z!" I thought I'd grown out of that show, but I'm re-reading the manga in Shonen Jump these days. I like boys anime for some reason. 'Course, Sailor Moon's good too (even though I've only read the manga..)

Well, since you're here, maybe you can enlighten me. What is so great about Akira? Did I miss something? I own it, so I can always watch it again, if you convince me.

Well personally I love Akira and Spirited Away. Those are two of my favourite anime movies. One of the reasons I like Akira so much is I think the animation is absolutely beautiful. It's one of the most well-drawn anime movies.

I do enjoy DBZ, but the manga really is greatness. I also prefer the Sailor Moon mangas to the show. It annoys me that she got drunk off "grape juice" in that one episode, and Haruka and Michiru as cousins annoys me so very, very much. Censorship is stupid. Seriously. The show is meant for younger kids in Japan too but they are culturally very different from the USA and Canada. But if you want one of their shows in English, then bring over the whole thing! Complete with the occasional shower butt shot, occasional underage drinking, and a lesbian couple.

Yeah, censorship really ticks me off. Like at school, the Teenage Mutant Ninji Turtles were out class superhero and we weren't allowed to use "Kick the shell out of 'em!" for a catch-phrase. Gyargh.

I also hated how they cut off the violence in Rurouni Kenshin when it was one TV. Sometimes you couldn't tell what was going on. Like when Jinei killed himself. People are too uptight. Sheltering kids isn't going to accomplish anything.

Maybe the artwork is why I *didn't* like Akira too much. Not enough bishounen. That sounds really shallow, doesn't it?

Does anyone watch Gad Guard on G4 Tech TV? I've only seen like 3 episodes of it, but I'm getting addicted! For some reason I like shows like that.
