Maybe you should look at the history of how Indians were treated by Canada. My friend lives on Six Nation Indian reserve - when her grandfather was a child they used to get beat if they smoke Mokawk or anything - and his school was on the reserve.

Yeah - if there is ever a need for tundra.

Canadians do not have accents. (well, ok, Ontarians don't, Frenchy's and Newfies do. )
Been to Ontario many many times - they do have an accent. It's similar to Hazleton Pennsylvania where my cousins live and I used to go when I was younger.

The Canadians always get involved in peacekeeping missions. Sice I believe 1965, Canada has taken part in every single UN peacekeping operation. Not to mention our war deeds.
And it's our military equipment and money that goes to support them.

I might add that, while in WWI we entered the war automatically with the Brits, we entered a week after them in WWII, because they're our allies.
Really because you were owned by Britain and you had to support them for that reason - no matter what Canadians may want to think today.

Most Canadians do not say aboot, we do say eh. But we also actually say "you're welcome" when someone thanks us.
Been to Canada many many times - I've heard a lot of people say aboot. We also say "You're welcome". Just to let you know - the first time I walked into a store in canada - I was made fun of for being an American by the checkout person. Don't fool yourself thinking Canada is more polite than America.
Quote:

Canadians are also the first nation of Lacrosse.
Sorry - Lacrosse is an Indian game - the settlers picked it up from the natives. It's a North American game - and it is very popular in NJ - we have to pro teams - New Jersey Pride and the New Jersey Storm
Quote:

We have never asked to be the best at Football, we know the Americans hold this. But we have every right to have our own league.
Isn't that a bit much to ask for your own league? You can't even keep professional teams in your country for your own sport of hockey.

We may not hold our hands on our hearts when we sing Oh, Canada, we we are patriotic, because when we sing it...it almost brigs tears to my eyes thinking about it.
The Star Spangled Banner does for me too - so I don't know what your point is here. And we don't necessarily put our hand over our hearts when we sing it.

Yes, Canadians have lots of American things, but the Americans have many British things as well.
"American Idol", and Simon, both originted from "Pop Idol" in Britain, as did "Whose Line is it Anyways", and "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire". (BTW I always knew Ruben would win)
Wow - and all those things I think suck. Never watched "Who Want to be a Millionaire" - except once or twice. Never watched "American Idol" nor "Whose Line is it Anyways". Of course you left out the worst Britist import which is "Weakest Link". I don't know how that woman made it into our country - but I hope now that her show failed that she's back over in Britain with her rudeness.
Quote:

Also, personally, I quite like Americans. although they look at yo funny if you apologize for bumping into someone in NYC or Chicago. (know from personal experience )
That's not necessarily true - even in NY. Although if you walk on the streets of NY - it's a little difficult NOT to bump into anyone. Did it take you an hour to go a block with all the apologising you would have done - or did you finally see why it didn't really matter too much? It would have been easier if you just wore a sign - "Sorry for bumping into you".

As for immigration and so forth - we are a far more diversified country than Canada. Toronto is the only city/town where I saw that they have a large ethnic population. I live in a relatively small town and if you walk down the street you will see all different ethnicities and what is really great - is that when you go passed the park - they're all playing basketball and other games together.

Hobbit - how is the magnetic south pole in canada? The south pole is surrounded by Australia, Africa and South America.

The geographic North Pole is at the North Pole i.e. 0 degrees North Latitude.

The magnetic North Pole is (currently) in Baffin Island- it moves, slowly.

If you're referring to the fact that the magnetic poles have flipped over the ages, the curren terminology of "North" is simply a matter of convenience.

I think he means that if the north pole of a magnet is attracted to the south pole of another magnet, then geographic NORTH is actually magnetic SOUTH.

Maybe. I was just refering to the fact that gollum said that compasses point to the magnetic north pole, which they do not.

I know the poles change slowly, this is a direct quote out of my science text book. The question "the magnetic south pole is located where" was even on my final, and the correct answer is canada.

Quote:
The Earth's magnetic poles do not coincide directly with its geographic poles. Scientists have discovered that the magnetic south pole is located in northeastern Canada, about 1500 kilometers from the geographic North Pole. The magnetic north pole is located near the Antarctic Circle.....
I'll admit that this book is from the early 90s.

My point is just that a compass points to geographic SOUTH, not NORTH. According to my teacher, final, and text book, the geographic SOUTH POLE is in Canada.

Okay - but several sites say this...

Quote:
Woods Hole Marine Magnetism Group
Earth's magnetic south pole is where the magnetic field lines are oriented vertically and come out of the surface of the Earth. The magnetic inclination is thus defined as -90 degrees. The magnetic pole varies in position on a yearly basis due to secular variation (or drift in Earth's magnetic field). Australian explorers T.W. Edgeworth David and D. Mawson were the first to claim locating the magnetic south pole in 1909 as part of the Shackleton expedition of 1907-1909. However, their location has subsequently been found to be incorrect and the most likely location of the pole in 1909 is 71deg 36'S 152deg 0'E.
State otherwise.

Also this site...

Quote:
British Antartic Survey

The magnetic South Pole was first reached during Shackleton's British Antarctic Expedition (1907-1909) by Professor Edgeworth David and Sir Douglas Mawson (Australian geologists) and Alistair Mackay who claimed the surrounding Victoria Land for the British Crown. At that time the magnetic pole lay within the Antarctic continent at latitude 71.6°S and longitude 152°E. Today it lies far out to sea at latitude 65°S and longitude 139°E. and travels 10 to 15 km north-westerly each year. Electric currents and the rolling motion of the liquid iron core of the Earth dictate the position of the magnetic poles. The pole wanders daily in a roughly elliptical path around this average position, and may be as far as 80 km away from this position when the Earth's magnetic field is disturbed.
Then I found this...
Quote:
Magnetic Poles

One pole of your magnet pointed north, such a pole was originally called a north seeking pole which was eventually shortened to north pole. When it was discovered that the earth was a magnet the north pole of the compass was attracted to the opposite magnetic pole on the earth. Unfortunately this magnetic south pole was located in the northern hemisphere of the earth. So we ended up with the magnetic south pole near the geographic north pole. This has caused confusion ever since. In fact even today the magnetic south pole of the earth is marked on maps as the "north magnetic pole." Beware!

Any player of any worth goes to the NFL. The CFL is just the scrubs that couldn't make it in the NFL. And you know that to be true.

Yeah - each province would be made into a state. We wouldn't want Quebec probably - too many headaches. They've proven that already. We may have to break up some of the larger provinces into smaller states - don't want you influencing Congress with socialist ideas.

I'd be able to understand you. My friend moved from South Africa when she was 2, and her mom had been living there her whole life, so her mom still has a very thick accent, and i can understand her fine (but thats just me).

Okay - we won't bomb you then. Can we have free reign over Quebec though?

They could be - Hawaii is a number of islands. But the PEI, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick would probably just stay as they are. They seem to be pretty cool provinces - sort of like a New England feel.

I know.

Just think - without Quebec being made part of America - you won't have French and English on your products any more. That's a big bonus. Also- your road signs won't attract graffiti with people paining over the French like I saw on the QEW and other roads.

Grow up, boo hoo someone throws a few comments about Canada so what? Americans hear Anti-USA comments all the time, do you see us crying... no. I had no problem with Europe and Canada before, but after reading this message board for a few months I'm dissapointed and have changed my mentality towards Europe and everywhere else outside the U.S. in general. What I find most amusing is how everyone is so quick put down the U.S. and how often they overlook all the good things America has done. I thought the people of Canada, Europe or where ever you live were better than that. But you all proved me wrong.
