The two other Matrix movies are going to be gargantuan arse-kickers, but I don't consider them awards competition for ROTK outside of the technical categories. Trust me, I'm making this assertion based on past-observed Academy dynamics.
ROTK is already guaranteed a nomination for Best Picture. It had better win, but we'll see what the playing field looks like a year from now.

Of course RotK SHOULD win the academy award, but the academy goes strange ways.

Yes, it always does. I hope they win more for tRotK than they did for TtT.
Have you noticed that for both of the LotR movies, they won 1/3 of what they were nominated for? Last year, the Fellowship won 4 out of 12 awards, and this year TTT won 2 out of 6 awards. Interesting...

Okay, then RotK has to get 60 nominations to win 20 academy awards. Then I'll be satisfied.

Yes well I think the cahnces will be slim but I'm sure next years Oscars will be a Warner Bros./Aol year. Haven't you noticed that the Matrix movies, Harry Potter and LoTR all have been produced under Warner Bros. or their other production companes thatthey own. What I'm getting at is that whatever movei wins it will be because Aol/Time Warner wanted it to win because they are in control of all of the blockbuster movies.

I'm afraid it won't be for Best Actress, because none of the actresses will have enough screen time to be eligible. But it could get best supporting if Miranda does well!

That is true. Female actresses in this movie won't be nominated for best actress...as they have very small scenes compared to the male actors.
For Best supporting actress...im hoping for liv ! (who just got married..yay!) anyway..I hope Ian gets best actor..but he has to get nominated first! I dont think he has ever won an oscar?? Has he??? I think he might have.

Well, I guess the part of Eowyn should grow in RotK. Maybe a Best Actress Award. (just hoping)

Here's what I think its nomination possibilities are:
Best Picture: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Best Actor in a Leading Role: Viggo Mortensen or Elijah Wood Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Ian McKellen or Sean Asten Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Miranda Otto Art Direction Cinematography Costume Design Best Director: Peter Jackson Film Editing Makeup Best Score (music): Howard Shore Sound Sound Editing Visual Effects Writing (Adapted Screenplay) That's 15 total. I went to www.oscar.com and took a look at all the categories.

TT will definitely be nominated for visual effects and sound/sound editing. TT has a really good chance on winning these...but both of the new matrix's coming out are a definite threat.

Yeah... the Oscars were a while ago. They won visual effects and sound editing. They were only nominated for 6 of the ones I mentioned previously. Those were things that I thought RotK could win.

Yes, Matrix is a big threat. And I'm sure there are other movies that will be big threats, like Chicago was this year.
PJ has a good of being nominated for best director next year also. I think he deserves it.

But I guess the chances for RotK are not really bad, because this year there was Spider-Man and Star Wars and TTT did win the Visual Effects.
