Actually, I'm a rightist, just a non-religious one. And I wasn't making a comment about religion in general, just the fact that the Communist Manifesto for one, unlike Corinthians (or was it Kings I?) doesn't make the claim that pi = 3...

Didn't anyone catch the self-contradictory irony of my "God help us" quote above... oh well, sigh.

Yes, actually I did, but I was rather chary of commenting on it because I was afraid it would be taken in the wrong manner. Here is what I was going to post, but didn't, but now will:

God will probably be able to save a lot more of us if the religious right takes over! (lots of smilies, ok?!) (however, my def'n of the religious right would certainly not include most of the people you see on religious tv!)

Just bumped into an interesting word today - inchoate. JRRT used it in one of his letters. The def:

I'm adding that one to my volcabulary. It kind of reminds me of of my English paper at the moment. *goes off to fini--er--start it*

Well, go "choate" that paper and we'll say "ciao" to California and Canada, and "buon giorno" to Italy!

I caught it.

I just wonder if it would have been such a big deal if everyone knew that a 'cubit' is equal to two (hand) spans or six Handsbreadths. Measurements like that aren't exactly scientific.

Something of interest for all of the Commanists, and Spellinazis out there: www.spellingpolice.com

I don't think they would cite message boards or web logs, do you?

Surprisingly, I am very atune to spelling and grammar mistakes. I have to be, but I often don't practise what I preach. These mistakes don't bother me (even though I do have to correct them), as long as ebonics is not used. I find ebonics ridiculous, and ignorant.

Well, that is all!

My goodness. Amazing site.

You know, I've been thinking that sometime or other, I'll learn to handwrite from scratch - with my left hand. I think that kind of thing can be trained, and that right/left-handedness isn't something you're born with.

Besides, being ambidextrous will help my piano playing.

I'm pretty good at writing with my left hand, but only mirror script. It's completely backward so if you hold it up to the mirror it reads forward. The only problem is that if I write like that for too long, the letters turn around in my brain and look forward, even though I'm writing them backward. Very scary.

I think handedness is a trait with which one is born, but one can teach oneself to use the other hand almost as well as the dominant hand, but only with a lot of practice. The books say you cannot tell if a child is left- or right-handed until they're about 2, but I could tell much earlier which hand each of my sons would use.

I agree with Azalea. My Grandfather was left handed but when he joined the army they made him learn to be right handed for his mission. Next summer I am going to try and teach myself how to right with my left hand.
I make a lot of mistakes when typing but i try not to and fix them if I catch them.

Actually, being right or left handed shows which side of your brain you use more. If your right handed, you use your left side of the brain, if your left handed you use right side of the brain.

Left side: Logic, math, motor skills, and the like
Right side: Creativity, Imagination, musical skills, and the like.

So if the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body, and the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, left handed people are the only people in their right mind. No, I'm not left handed. But both my parents are.

Wasn't being left-handed a sign of the devil a few centuries back?

note: My sister is left-handed.
