Is that our chocolate-grubbing friend's name?

I've heard that word several times now, but what exactly IS a 'redneck'? I'm assuming they aren't people who look red

It means "country dweller, farmer" and comes from people who have sunburn on the back of their necks from long hours in the fields. They're commonly stereotyped as being socially conservative and not really bright. Like many stereotypical terms it has been somewhat embraced by people who might fall into that category as an emblem of pride. Hence country songs like 'Redneck woman" which celebrate that culture.

Usually, around here, we call someone that who likes to emulate the original culture that the name comes from, but has no experience doing any of the actual work. Cowboy posers, hunters who get drunk every weekend and never actually fire a gun, and they generally are the ones who think having an education is stupid and everyone should revert to shop classes.
Some fail those.

Ah, thanks ^_^
So it's different from 'farmboy'. *nods* I see. I thought it was something like Hells Angels or similar.

Thanks for the sympathy, guys.
I don't think the other cats noticed much of Jinx's absence. Smaug only sees him occassionally when he comes upstairs, and she hasn't seen him at all since he fell sick. And Chefren... well, I'm not sure Chefren even remembers five minutes ago... As for us, well, we knew it was coming. Still, having a cat that long is a habit that's hard to break. I still tend to check where Jinx is when I go to bed.

Yesterday one of our kittens, which was recovering from a broken leg, made it outside where our new (and ugly, hideous, evil) dog was running loose. When I drove up the driveway, I looked to my right and saw the dog on the lawn with the cat in its jaws chewing her up. I parked as fast as I could and leaped out the car and started beating the dog to get the cat out of its mouth.
Alas, I was too late. The cat died within thirty minutes.

Brute is right. I'm going to make sure we get rid of this dog somehow.
At least the sister kitten is still with us. But she doesn't have a healing leg to cripple her in a fight. Quite fiesty, this one is. Here's the deceased cat a few weeks ago:

Poor kitten!
...Do you own any low caliber weapons of any sort Hector? a .22 would do wonders for that dog. *hugs for Hector and also for Earniel*

So I'm waiting to hear back from WalMarts about a job. Probably as a cart-pusher. The lady said she'd call me back in 30 minutes...
and now, one hour later.... still waiting. Oh well. You do what you gotta do. I'm sure it will be good for my inflated ego if I do get the job . Nothing to remind you that you are not the center of the universe like picking up carts after people and, I can only assume, probably cleaning up after the baby in row 5 and cleaning the bathrooms. :P |

In fact, we do. But I'm not going to use it as a first option. I've definitely put it on my list of options, though.
