It's good if you want to try out games first. I'm rather picky about my RPG's
I'd love to play Suikoden 3. Do you know/ have you played it? I really loved the Suikoden 2 for the PS1.

Does anyone know Lunar Legend by the way? Or Breath of Fire 3&4 or Golden Sun 1&2?
Those are the games I liked the best.

Oh and Sis, please clean out your inbox, or your sent-box.

EDIT: Poll-answer: for console-games I prefer RPG's as the aforementioned ones. For PC-games I prefer strategy or building games. Civilization 3 for example. All pretty much non-combat.

I prefer character driven games like FF. I play a lot of RPGs. But other than really good RPGs, I pretty much exclusively play games that are all about being sharp and having quick reflexes. Racing games, fighters, Geometry Wars type stuff. Besides for RPGs, I like games where you don't have to think. Games where you let go and let instinct take over.

PGR3 is Project Gotham Racing 3. It's really fun, even though I'm stuck on a race now, but it requires beating an amazingly short time limit. It might just be that I keep crashing into walls, but whatever...

Hi Sane! Care for a drink? I'm having "strong" cola (coke) right now and I don't mind sharing.
Oh wait, it might be a tad early for you...

So how are you?

Hi all! I saw the gaming discussion and thought I'd pop in. I much prefer character-driven games, though I'll try just about anything, sometimes games I don't think I'll like surprise me.

Apart from FFVII, my very favorite game, I once had a dreadful Sims addiction, and loved Fable.

My main problem now is with the new consoles - I can't figure out those analog sticks, and so I'm not any good at the games for which much skill with them is needed - which is most of them, now! So I don't play nearly as much as I used to.

Oh! I played Fable, the PC-version! But I thought it was waaaay to easy. Especially if you understood the trading system. Made me invincible pretty much at the beginning of the game. Still loved it though. Beautiful sceneries and a pretty good story

It was a little easy, but I didn't mind that - I haven't really got the patience for very challenging games! The story was good, though, and there was a lot of scope for just running about and trying silly and/or amusing things, which does increase the lifespan of a game.

How's your weekend going, Mari?

I - didn't get all my housework done, like I intended to, but I wrote a bit, and that makes it a good day. Also, my new hairsticks finally arrived, and unlike the last pair I had I can actually get these ones to work. So pretty good, so far.

I suppose I could have a bit more tea - I'm very rarely online without a cup next to me. Will you have some, too?

What did you find out about M-E? Anything particularly interesting or discussion-worthy? I tend to notice new things every time I revisit one of the books, which just proves the depth of Tolkien's writing, I guess!

What are hairsticks?

And what I found out was stuff about Finrod and Numenor and some talk on elves.
But I don't have the books, so for me it is all new anyhow.

*makes a pot of tea for us both*

Hairsticks are like this - just sticks to keep a hairstyle (in my case, just a messy bun) in place. But I'd been waiting a couple of weeks for them, having bought them online, so I'm pleased.

Ah, well if it's all new to you, even better! It's fascinating. Particularly Finrod.

Ah, chopsticks. I have some of those too. But my hair is now too short for it.
Did you know that some Japanese samurai would use sharp pins to keep their hair up, take them out for dinner to eat, and put them back in.

I didn't! That's a rather cool idea.

...not that I'm going to try it.

No, that would be a bit... icky. Even if you cleaned them.
Their small sword was also multi-purpose by the way, but I'll shut up about Japan before I bore you all death

Not boring at all - something I know very little about (except that katanas, as swords go, are pretty awesome) so I can learn something new today, too.

But I'm going to have to get offline now, unfortunately - so maybe it'll have to wait until tomorrow. Goodnight!

I dunno, that perturbs me. I'm not the same as when I was 11. Interest change. Study habits change. I was a cruise-through-on-own-talents kind of person until university, when I really started to work hard. If I'd been placed by my merits when I was 11, I would have ended up in a different place than I'm in now.

RE: games - my favourite genre is the adventure game (Longest Journey, Monkey Island, etc). Second is definitely the RPG (Baldurs Gate 2, FF, etc).

My favourite game ever is System Shock 1 (1995) - which is kind of a fusion FPS/Adventure game.

POLL: character driven OR plot driven.

Oh, that test isn't on intelligence per se. It's on your ability to learn, your basis (what you've learned so far), what you know of the world. And the teacher gets to have a big say in it too, plus your records of previous years. So based on all those factors, you are suggested to go to a certain level. And really, there isn't much pressure on getting to the highest level. You do what you can and/or like and that's okay.
For most parents it is though, there probably are exceptions.

EDIT: but as I said earlier, the system isn't perfect. There are children who end up in the wrong place after all. (There was quite a thing with my placement thanks to a not so good teacher in the 7th year) But for most people it works out fine.
