Yes, you will win, but I'll be so convincing with my ideas that you'll WANT to implement them.
BTW, I answered your PM. Great idea, that's exactly what I mean by making the music subtle. Let the work within the movie rather than making it almost a separate entity. |

How about the end theme? If it really doesn't fit, it's better not to compromise the integrity of the film, but it could always be included on the cd as a "special feature."

This is super cool! I want to be in it too!
I notice there's a script supervisor, and an official script writer, but no one to assist them in their daunting task! Can I be the Assistant Script Writer? (And I wouldn't mind being an Elf extra later, if you need them.)

Oh rats! I joined this thread too late obviously. But I'd love to be the asst director! I'm glad all the good jobs aren't taken.
Blind Guardian plays Progressive Metal, and you can download three really good songs of theirs at mp3.com http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/5/blind_guardian.html I think they'd make good opening music, because during the film I'd be distracted by their incredible awesomeness and beautiful chords. I agree with azalea's idea of the film music being subtle - harps and oboes etc.

I play guitar! > But fine, I am only the assistant after all. I do think we should have an oboe solo in the part after Gandalf falls in Moria and everyone grieves that he's dead. That would be beautiful! (I would laugh at you if Berlioz ever had a harp in his orchestra, but I don't think he did.)
Have we decided all the things that have a higher priority than the music? On the other had, music can make or break a movie.

oh berlioz has some harp (i would know), but he uses it so wisely and subtly that its not annoying like most harp stuff.
I'll let harp in if we use it sparingly. I'm adding you to the list now nirvingiel.(the spanking list! mwhaahahahahahha!)

I've heard it called that too, I just put what mp3.com said. Maybe it's the same genre. I think Hector has nixed all forms of guitar though, I still think he's missing out.

I thought the harp was a typical Middle Earth instrument?
Imagine a scene from the Hall of Fire in Imladris, with lovely harp music and song.

I just cant stand harp. I dont like twanging instruments. i dont mind having a harp in lotr. but its going to have to be really small and quiet anyway, a more subtle theme is needed for the evil/mordor theme. i think violas, violens, and a single trumpet would be a great combination.

Don't forget, a good director must put his own personal likes and dislikes aside for the good of the project. Harps were widely used in ME. But that is not important at this point anyway. (Unfortunately, we will be a little at odds because of your strong love of classical music, and naturally you wish to make that a big part of the movie, whereas I see the music as something that should be used more sparingly in this case. Ah, well, it's an honor just to be involved in this project at such an important level that I can bear to defer to the director in these types of matters. But with kiwi as producer, you'll may have to defer on some things yourself! )
