Is it Elwing when she was transformed into a birdie by Ulmo?

I dunno... in some ways this one is kind of hard because it's so vague. It COULD be LOTS of things...

Can you summarize again what things have been wrongly guessed and what hints you've given on it?

It is not Elwing.

So far it has been determined that the solution is NOT a mountain, nor is it a tower or city of any kind although it has a relationship with towers to a certain extent. Also, it is not the moon, Earendil's star/ship, nor any other heavenly body. It is not Gandalf in the moments after his rebirth (which was a good guess even though incorrect).

Also, I would differ with you on your complaint that it is vague. I find it to to have an exquisite balance between saying too much and not saying enough. You guys are simply having trouble with it and that gives me a satisfaction bordering on outright glee!

The answer is not something that is totally obscure. All serious students of M.E. history are well aware of it.

Finally, I would like to hear some examples of the "lots of things" it could be. If you start guessing some of those perhaps you will hit on the answer. Then again, you may discover that there are not as many possibilities as you had first supposed!

P.S. If you want to see the picture I have in my mind concerning all this here it is.....

Yeah - I think it's this satisfaction you receive from this that is so frustrating! Having been at the other end of it though (but not as often as you), I know why you feel so good though. It's a lot of work to make a good riddle, and the solving is usually easier.

Maybe not this time though.

"Robin... to the Batcave! The Riddler has left us a fine one THIS time!"

"Holy Valar Batman! Does it have to do with Elbereth Githoniel?"

"Calm down... old chum. Let's see what the Batcomputer says..."

no. Here is a new clue:
It is a 3rd Age riddle. It is a LOTR riddle. No need to consider any other of Tolkien's works.

Pure and white.
Without stain or blight.
Soaring with pride
at a great height.

Sounds like some type of banner or emblem maybe.

Keith K,
I don't know if this has been guessed before, but could the answer to your infamous "white" riddle be the White Tree of Gondor?

Mt. Doom is the first thing that comes to mind in this riddle. While it was the birthplace of the Ring it wasn't necessarily its home.
