The Arts

I was thinking, we have a thread for photography, but no thread for other art mediums. I don't know how many other artists there are on the 'Moot who've dabbled in fan-art or more, but I think it would be fun to share our work, perhaps critique each other, discuss in general.

I haven't done anything more than doodles with paint or really any colour; I draw. Pencils, paper. And recently I've tried picking up markers... Here's some of my favourites of my work:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...m/simontam.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...m/rivertam.jpg

And here's one I'm kind of proud of; my first attempt--I did it with a Sharpie in about a half-hour:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../rcmaximus.jpg

So, share, people!!! (Please?)

This topic hasn't had a post in two years.

Rosie wanted to have a topic for artists and the arts.

These two topic threads are closely related.

I now leave it to TPTB to decide whether to modify the title of this original thread, or leave both separate, or merge the new and the old. .

Judging by the Entmoot rules, and seen the old thread had been inactive for two years, starting a new thread on this topic is allowed.

But since both topics are now active, I have merged them.

Rosie, if you would still have preferred a new thread, PM me and we'll work something out.

Ooooh! Prettyness! Those drawings rock, Rosie!

Here are a few of mine... all three are a combo of graphite pencils, and prismacolor pencils and markers.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...dding00022.jpg

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...liel/Elena.jpg

And the next two are actually one drawing, but I had to scan it in two parts...

Thanks for waking this topic up again.

Yes, I agree. They're very good. Portraits is just something I can not do. (Firefly fan, perhaps? )

As for sharing, this my latest work:

How long did it take you to get that detail in there?

Sort of. Not a fanatic, but I liked their faces well enough to draw.

Heh, glad you all like it.

Oh, hours. Days actually. Two to three hours a day in pencil, then one day for the inking, and then several evenings to colour the whole thing. The top bookshelves alone took to three hours. It was a great exercise. But in the end I started to tire of it and you can see that in the floor and the lady's shadow.

Yes, a barn owl even. I wanted something ghostly, scary looking, instead it looks cute. Ah well, I'm pleased enough with it.

Believe it or not, but all my backgrounds usually suck. The whole idea of this particular drawing was making a background for once more detailed than the actual figure. There are some errors in shadows and perspective, but I still have to meet the first artist who didn't see any flaw in his/her work!

Do you often draw portraits?

Caran d'ache, aquarelle variety. (A humungous box with 80 colours (!) that I got for my 12th birthday, more than a decade ago. I'm still using it. I bet my children will still be able to use it.)

On the whole I don't do coloured pencil much, my usual medium is watercolour.

Well... they do die eventually. My black and skin colored pencils have a life span of about two-three years. I've got a bin full of colored pencils that I've accquired over the years, there's this one hazel colored crayola that's about an inch or so long now. Don't know how much longer it can last!

Yes, I had to replace the black, white and mossgreen pencils already, but it's still the same box from my 12th birthday. It always reminds me of a scene from Terry Pratchett's 'The Carpet People'. In that book a character gets back his grandfather's axe from someone who had borrowed it. The blade of the axe had been changed over the years as the old one had worn down, and the handle had been replaced once or twice after breaking, but it still was his grandfather's axe. That's how I feel about my box.

Point. I guess in that case I've still got the same armory. I've got bits of at least six boxes all mixed together.

So what did you think of my elvish beach bums?

Well, not entirely elvish. That's my dark skinned (Tanned) Shah in there, romancing his woman!

It's a scene that takes place well after the Of Wraiths rpg.

Lizra, Your art objects are beautiful. Each piece muct take a long time to make. They look like they belong in a museum.

Rosie, your stuff is just awsome! The pencil sketches look photographic.

Lady Marion, Your art is beautiful. I would call it shiny too. It is in the style of the great Art Deco masters of the 1930's. Most people just sketch like me, drawing objective pictures. Your stuff is art.
