The correct reply was given and the circumstances surrounding it's phrasing were correct. I specifically asked for the two characters and in only the passage where Nob & Merry run into the Hobbits room at the inn, are two characters mentioned in the same passage. Barliman only "heard it" from Nob. As questioner, the decision of correctness stands.
now give me a few more hours to think up a good question..again.

NEXT QUESTION - READ CAREFULLY
It's another of my famous questions.
What is the name of the location where Frodo used to go to collect his favorite dish? NO not who owned it.

I'm not being churlish - I am just being accurate. Enough, however, on that subject. I will try really hard to answer another question correctly!!

For Elanor the Fair
Anyone who can use that adjective correctly deserves futher response.!
Perhaps it would have been more clear or as the public schools say "more better" if I had phrased it *two characters reported to Frodo*. However, water has gone down the Bryandywine and I await another correct response.

....sighs.....
Yes he does say that in chapter 4 but that was always taken by me as the name of his farm not the location. In chapter 5 it states "....Hobbits have a passion for mushrooms.....which explains young Frodo's long expeditions to the renowned fields of the Marish." I'm always having problems because I try to be very precise but so far very few here get the answers I seek. I guess "the ring" has clouded my judgement. So I give up and you can go now L.C.O.U.

I'm so excited - I'm trying to come up with a question that requires a bit of thinking, so here goes.....
How many of the Nazgul were sighted in Eriador the night the four hobbits slept in Bree and where were they sighted? The answer must be based on actual sightings by characters in the Fellowship of the Ring and not on speculation or hypothesis by characters in the book.

I think it would be one, seen by Merry in Bree. Others saw them in Buckland, not the Fellowship though. Maybe Aragorn saw some as well? But he doesn't say anything about it...

No, Radagast, I'm sorry, but that answer is incorrect, however, you are on the right track!! My question didn't ask who of the Fellowship saw the Nazgul, just what were the positive sightings by characters in the book. And you are right about Aragorn. He does see some in Bree, but not on the evening that the hobbits stayed there. He saw them previous to this. Good work so far!!

Elanor you're doing much better now (from Night Court). At least there are now two of us asking this type of question.
