My favourite hymn (that I can think of at the moment) is "The King of Love My Shepherd Is" - and also "Abide With Me".

Makes note so he can drop them into convos to increase his favour...
Merc, I've sung some John Rutter, it's amazing! Really weird at points, but very effective. One especially is Hymn to the Creator of Light, words by Lancelot Andrews. Tavener also does that kind of thing. I enjoyed The Lamb.

Ok, here's a little question for you out there (not that this is only a religion-thread though.):
Is donation of organs right or wrong, in your opinion? Please explain why.

Personally i am converting to wicca or witchcraft. Unlike most people belive, wicca is a very peaceful, harmonious and balanced way of thinking and life which promotes oneness with the divine and all which exists. Also unlike most people belive, witches don't worship saten, saten is a christian creation and they can keep him. I don't belive we need a figure of ultiment damnation to scare us into doing the right thing, we can do that of our own free will.

And as for Satan, he is the perconification of evil. And evil is a real and terrible part of human nature, and thus having it defined should (note the non-definitive 'should') make it easier for us to define and thus combat as best we may. I agree we can be 'good' without an actual bloke with a red tail and horns wagging his evil finger at us, but I don't think its going to happen. It all depends on your view of the world, and on your view of evil. Christians believe that evil is real and present, and it must be resisted. So thus having a focus for that evil is rather useful. And welcome to the Moot, Melfena.

Random aside... now for a little hunour.
I grew up in a mixed religion household. It can be hard sometimes. My mother was an agnostic and my father was an athiest. I remember the arguments - "There is no God." "There might be." Merc's post reminded me of that.

An Anglican bishop has criticised the hymn "I vow to thee my country" because he thinks it is nationalistic and therefore inappropriate for Christians to sing.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/m...er/3557750.stm As far as I can see, bishops do this periodically to get some media attention and try and look 'relevant'. However, regardless of whether he's right or wrong about this particular hymn (though I think he's wrong, wrong, wrong) do you think Christianity and patriotism are incompatible? By the way, BBC News misleadingly only printed the first verse of the hymn; the whole version can be found here: http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/i/v/ivow2the.htm

I have sometimes wondered whether some people use patriotism as a substitute for religion if they don't want to believe in God...

the desire for meaning and 'something greater' is very strong among humanity, and many may look to patriotism is something more tangible in today's world
the more things change, the more they stay the same i do agree that they should be able to sing whatever they want, however... nobody really pays attention to the words anyway, i'm sure
