Just to clarify, that does not include people who are referred to (like his father or mother)... only people that actually make an appearance in the story.

No takers? Ok, here's the list:

Elrond, Arwen, Galadriel, Elladan and Elrohir, Theoden, Eowyn, Theodred, Eomer, and Celeborn.

I'm not including his son. He is also potentially related to just about every major player in the story so I won't include them. Just the confirmable cases. Here's a less insane question:

How many "drownings" are referred to in the books? (Incidents, not numbers of people.)

I was GONNA just say 'everyone', but couldn't quite work it out with Gimli and Frodo. And are you SURE about Galadriel and Celeborn (whose child WAS he, anyway?) before the marriage? I guess it depends how distant you want to go, huh? After all - he and Arwen were probably like 1st cousins, 64 times removed or some such.

Refresh me on his relations with the Rohirrim though... are you talking way back to the First Age Edain ancestors... or was there someone more recent I'm forgetting?

Celeborn through marriage (he was the son of a Sindar Elf, and was a member of Elu Thingol's court.) Galadriel is related as she is Turgon's first cousin. Turgon's daughter married Earendil and begat Elrond and Elros.

My bad on the Rohirrim connection though. Turns out you can cross those guys from the list.

Drogo Baggins and Primula Brandibuck, Isildor. You might count the Nazgul. Their horses did die, I think...

CLOSE on Galadriel - but Turgon's daughter married Tuor - and they became the parents of Earnedil. You probably knew that and just replied too hastily...

Yes, err, that's right.

Sorry Radaghast you missed two. (And Isildur was slain by a barrage of arrows after he crossed the river, and waded out the other side without benefit of the ring.)

Ooo-ooo! What'stheirnames? That tragic Elf couple from Lorien... Amroth and Nimrodel???

UJ - you'd probably like 'The Riddle Game'... it's in the ME forum and the thread has fallen into disuse lately. Look it over and see if you're interested in reviving it.

Still missing one incident. Amroth is correct though; although Nimrodel's fate is unknown.

That's what I was thinking. In fact, we're assuming Amroth drowned, but it seems reasonable to think so. Hmmm... who else??

I did think of Amroth and Nimrodel; but I forgot whether or not it was mentioned in FotR.

Amroth's death is mentioned in hte Lay of Nimrodel, which Legolas sings a part of as he crosses that river. Still missing one though.

I'll give you guys a big clue. It's in the appendices.

UJ- you missed the rules of the thread; posted ages ago.

No appendix questions. The question has to come from the storyline itself.

There is a thread for trivia based upon appendixes, so you might want to join that.

Seriously? Then I'll give it to Radagast. I was thinking about Barahir's death off the icy coasts of Forochel.

Wasn't it Arvedui? I thought about him too, but he wasn't in FotR, so...

Is it my turn then?
