NO not North of Bree!

The most remote of the settlements of the Bree-land, set among the trees on the edge of the Chetwood, somewhat to the east of Bree itself.

I wasn't really sure about the way from Bree - but you are right about the Chestwood part. But *after checking right now* I think you're right about the east too. Your turn.

Well, in the case of the West-Door they were written by Celebrimbor of the Noldor of Eregion; and were fashioned from mithril.

UJ-a belated welcome to this thread. You couldn't know but others do; I'm a very literal, logical person (well mostly) and so reading comprehension is the clue.

you answered "by whom" which I didn't ask

you answered "what they were made of" which I also didn't ask.

..please try again

The moon? I've read your question and if none of the above responses are correct then you are in fact NOT a literal logical person.

THE QUESTION WAS

Moon letters were written by what?

THE ANSWER..to forgo my victory dance and further hostilities amongst members.

Moon-letters were written with silver pens. The substance ithildin, made from mithril, reflected only starlight and moonlight, and it seems likely that ithildin, or something very similar, was used by the Dwarves to write their moon-letters.
