I've got that worked out. In fact, some friends of mine are preparing a Teacup Table News press conference on that very subject.

They don't behave as the judicial branch, and there's no checks and balances. They behave as a police force, but the police isn't a formal branch of government, in the US, anyway.

Tabby. What do you see as the potential responsibility of the legislative branch?

I would side with those who see this as a benevolent dictatorship, and I'm okay with that. Running things ain't all it's cracked up to be.

I think our legislative branch will have that as any other. People will petition the government, the Senate decides if it's worth deciding on, then the people (i.e. the rest of the legislative branch=everyone) then vote on it. If there's a 50% plus one person majority vote, the law is passed.

However, I doubt there will be much in the way of law passing, as I think the laws we have are about as clear defined as we can get.

Last night I went to the beach and saw a grunion run. It was really fun. Has anyone else seen this? Grunions are little fish that come out of the water and dig themselves into the sand to lay eggs. It's very interesting. I'm going again tonight, you have to go to the beach at midnight (high tide) to see them. Here's a little more information: http://sandiego.about.com/od/outdoor...a/grunions.htm

It's great! Thanks.

Hey, debatish. How does anyone feel about the concept of patriotism? I was singing the National Anthem today (long story, lol) and while I was on, there was a woman holding up anti-war signs. Which is dandy, more power to her.

But for me, my country is about such freedoms, and I wouldn't occur to me to "protest" a peaceful gathering honoring it with signs about the war, which I think is the work of anti-patriots who have disgraced anything our Founders held dear. I definitely think GWB has more in common with King George than with Jefferson. So, from that POV, I found her timing odd. So, particularly you non US nationals, how closely do you associate current political issues with your national symbols?

Well, I'm a US national...but I'm in favour of patriotism, and I believe it's a virtue. It's just one of the many virtues I am rather lacking in these days.

I went to see the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibition today! It was so cool. You get to see the actual scrolls. First you see a bunch of pictures of Israel, it was interesting to see how similar it is to San Diego. Then you learn about how they were found and preserved. Then you learn about Qumran -the place they probably came from- who lived there, what they did. Then you get to see the actual scrolls. With each one it had a translation of what it says, why it is important, and other interesting things about it. If anyone lives in San Diego they should definitely go. It was awesome.
