Here's a few of my favorites from a list - kids answering the question "what love really is" -

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love."

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth."

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other."

"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired."

"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen."

"Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken."

"When you love somebody, your eye lashes go up and down and little stars come out of you."

Some of those are pretty profound!

those are sweet quotes though

love to me is unconditional appreciation for someone else... even if they take all the good pieces

But I'm sure she knows that you wanted her to have them

I agree with the appreciation aspect, but I would add that (at least IMO) love also involves action - actively doing something for the loved one when necessary.

Here's the last one on the page - it's a little different theme - it's about compassion/caring for others:

... a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his mother asked him what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."

True love is not of the flesh but of the heart.

Love, is It all that you want.
Is It everything you hope for.
Love, is It more than the word that you use when you look at her.
Love, It will push you around,
It will make you a poor man,
change your picture of heaven, heaven.
Love, It will make you a man,
It will make you a child again.
Love, does It keep you awake.
Does It change everything you see.
Love, is It worth what you give.
Is It everything you need.

Love. Love, is It all that you want. Is It everything you've worked for. Love, is It wearing you down...love.

Just thought i'd share that song... Peace and hair grease,

~Giroth

Love is a funny thing. It's something like a lizard!
It wraps its tail around your heart and crawls into your gizzard.

You always hear of terms like:
  • My First Love
  • The Love of my Life
  • My Soulmate
  • My Best Friend
  • My Lover
To you, what is the difference?
To you, what distinguishes one from another?
Can they all really exist in one person?

My First Love

a rather short-lived, but fun affair in my life... a fond memory in retrospect

The Love of my Life

i've had two i'd consider in that category (one i'm married to ) ... maybe The Loves of my Life

My Soulmate

hmmm... tough one... in terms of complimentary personalities the first "love of my life" was closer... maybe too close the second has grown into something that works real well

My Best Friend

i have five people i'd consider "best friends" ... the people i trust and give and take with the most ... my father, my wife, one of my kids, and two others (unrelated)

My Lover

my wife... faithfulness is one of my strongpoints (at least in a physical sense... the mind wanders sometimes )

so 3 or 4 out of 5 exist in one person (though not exclusively) ... i'm also not sure if her being my "first love" in a romantic sense would have been a good thing ... i think a lot of my appreciation for her is due to my past experience, and if i had not had that past experience i might not feel the way about her that i do

* My First Love: Myself.

* The Love of my Life: Myself.

* My Soulmate: I am self-fulfilled.

* My Best Friend: Myself.

* My Lover: Hmm. I must say, for some reason none has been available . . .

Fair point. And once I fall in love, I am certain to be loyal to the end.

I don't believe they sufficiently acknowledge my worth to be worthy of me.

There us no set definition of Love, IMO and in many of those who study intra personal relations. It affects each person differently and combining two or more individuals in this random chaos module with love, does not guarantee the same results each time.

Those that have found it, examine it to be sure it is not harmful and then closer to see if it is truly intrapersonal in actions and deeds. If it is, that is the least hurtful and most beneficial to the parties involved. IMO
