Both evil and good are born into a person; children don't have to be taught to to lie, or to take another child's toy away from them. Evil comes naturally to people; youth doesn't necessarily mean your free of evil.

Huh? Are you replying to my post? Because I wasn't even addressing that subject. Harry and Gandalf are not evil because that's how their characters are written. This is about fantasy fiction writing, not human nature.

But both of them would win, because they're Good Guys, and the Good Guys always win. Frankly, I think they'd both win by sheer power anyway....

No, but if soesn't make you evil either. If evil is discouraged as a child, then the child will learn to live without it.

Exactly; youth doesn't necessarily mean someone is pure and innocent, nor does it mean they are necessarily spoiled brats.

FF, I was replying to:

Quote:
Furthermore, being a child he retains some innocence and resistance to evil that adults do not have.
About their characters, that of course is right; but saying being young makes him more resistant to evil is, in my opinion, incorrect.

Hmm...Where do Good Guys lose...I know someone who's writing a fantasy series which has a very tragic end, where evil basically wins...That's all I can think of. But you're right, the Good Guys have a tendency to win. To paraphrase Dark Helmet, "Because Evil is dumb." Ok, maybe that wasn't exactly what he said...

Well... If you took Gandalf and Harry Potter out of the story books and brought them to life and they kept all of their charecteristics and their backgrounds and histpries are the same, except for their tendency to win... who do you think would win fighting against each others enemy.

HP verses Saruman

Gandalf verses Voldemort

I think Harry could beat Saruman. He beat Voldemort, after all. And Gandalf would definitely chew Voldy to pulp . . . so they'd both still be equal.

But Voldemort is a human; Saruman is a Maia, and the most powerful of the Wizards.

What's with all this human dissing? Look around you, Do you see any Maia? Noooooo... Doesn't that tell you something. LIke maybe, humans survived untill the 21 century but the Maia's were siped out? I am not sure, but I think that might make the humans better!

Pffffffft. Maiar don't live here, silly! They live in Valinor, which is no longer attainable through the world. Anyway, Maiar are supernatural beings, and thus of course better at using supernatural power.

Right... supernatural power Well in my opinion magic is diferent from supernatural power. Therefore I would have say that HP's magic is stronger than ay supernatural power.

Supernatural (2) and Magic (1) and do not apply in this situation.
Supernatural (1) can describe Magic (2)
Supernatural (3) is relates to Magic

Supernatural and Magical are the same.
