you know what made me upset? i was watching a special on the making of LOTR and the narrator was talking about the languages, and he said something like "...many different languages of middle earth, such as Elvish, both sindarin and quenya, and black speech, dwarvish..." as he said each of the names of the languages, he paused and they showed a clip of someone speaking each of the languages. but when he said "black speech", they showed a clip of Saruman on orthanc reciting the spell to bring the avalanch on the mountain. but that wasn't black speech, that was Quenya!

Yeah, I looked it up on a site, and turns out I was wrong.

here are some annoying names my family members have given the characters from lotr:
legolas: the hot guy(my cousin and aunt), the guy all of the girls like(my uncle), lego(my youngest sister), legovan(my dad), and the guy who looks like evita(my andrew lloyd weber fan sister) gandalf: whats-his-name(my aunt), randolf, randy, gary(my cousin), the greyish guy(my mom) the worst is my ENGLISH teacher. yes, the teacher who has us read "fine literature". she took off ten points on my book project on lord of the rings cuz she thought that aragorn was spelled argon. according to her, i had mispelled it everywhere in my report and when it was spelled aragorn in the BOOK, it was a typing error. that really annoys me. my english teacher hasnt read lotr or a number of well known classics, like watership down and treasure island. |

That must be frustrating! Did you ever get the points back? Honestly, that is ridiculous! You could argue that if the book was wrong, you can't be held responsible for the editor's mistake and in useing the spelling from the book, you were differing to the editor as a higher authority. (meaning that you didn't know any better and can't be blamed for the mistake) What did you say when the teacher told you? I swear, i would have made such a stink if that had happened to me. I would not have let the teacher get away with that, that is totally unfair.

Yes, indeed. Absolutely ridiculous. Did you ask how she knows it's spelled Argon?
Y'know, that is just...so STUPID. Aragorn has a meaning in the tongues of Tolkien's Elves (Royal Tree). Every time in his letters, he spelt it Aragorn. Why, by the stars of Elbereth, would anyone be fool enough to think it was spelled Argon???

I'm currently telling my friend that LotR the book is WAY better and that Argon is a noble gas and not a character.

See previous comment on the idiocy of that remark.

I changed my ICQ nickname to "Yavanna's Evil Twin". My friend asked my who Yavanna was. I told her that Yavanna was one of the Valier. She just looked at me funny.

One of my friends actually said, when referring to Boromir 'Gondor...you know, Sean Bean, he's called Gondor isn't he?'
I almost cried. Oh, and Eru has become Emu and ALL elves are gay, apparantly.

No. Doesn't the É mean that that syllable is stressed? So it doesn't really clear that up for me. I still say É ô win. But isn't there a dictionary at the end of the Sil that'll tell you for sure?
But what I can't stand is when readers mispronounce things by adding or changing consonants. Like Hobberton (Hobbiton), Rohannir (Rohirrim), or Balgrog (Balrog). There's no excuse for that. Anyway most of my friends haven't seen the movie or read the books. And I won't let them see it until they finish reading. But my friend Joe once refered to Aragorn as "the hot guy with the black suit" because that's how he hears him most refered to. I punched him for that.

'What are we going to do now then?' asked Pippin, undaunted by the wizard's bristling brows. "Knock on the door with your head, Peregrin Took,' said Gandalf. 'But if that does not shatter them, and I am allowed a little peace from foolish questions, I will seek for the opening words.' 'Fool of a Took!' he growled. 'This is a serious journey, not a hobbit walking-party. Throw yourself in next time, and then you will be no further nuisance. Now be quiet!' |
