Bahahaha!! Hilarious video Mari, and it is surprisingly relevant.

What these people need to realise is making a big deal out of alternate slang meanings of "ho" is only going to draw attention to it and make kids want to say it.

Yes I heard about it on the news and then I saw that video, so I thought I should post it. The ridiculous things people come up with. I told you a bit about the Dutch version of the Santa Claus thing right? On the 5th of December? Well, Sinterklaas has helpers, but they are traditionally black whereas Sinterklaas is white... Now they had the brilliant idea of having helpers in all kinds of colors, because just black helpers might be offensive to black people. Off course the people who brought it up were white. The black people really couldn't care less about the continuation of a tradition wherein the helpers have been black for decades.

NO!!! You shouldn't!!! Christmas is the most wonderful time of year, you can't just SLEEP THROUGH IT!!! If you really need your sleep, sleep on the 2nd day, but everyone's gotta celebrate Christmas at least on the 25th!!! *is getting fired up*
I'll probably have time in the morning, so I'll come on and wish you a Merry Christmas then.

Well, it's 12 o'clock on Christmas Eve here in Taiwan, so I just want to wish a Merry Christmas to all the Mooters.

Just got back from mass at the Catholic Church my wife and kids attend- the whole thing is in Amis, my wife's tribal language- she's a Taiwan aborigine, (related to the Polynesians)- so I don't understand much of it, but a lot the music is familiar, with adapted lyrics. The church is decorated in Christmas themes done in the aboriginal style, so it's an interesting mix.

The aboriginal people on Taiwan are poorer and less-educated than the Chinese who displaced them, and they have a lot of problems with alcohol and unemployment. The faces of the old men are harsh and weather-beaten, after a lifetime farming or fishing or working as construction labour, while the women are proud and strong ( and often very large )- it's a traditionally a matrilineal society where the women have an important place. Little kids in droves charge around unrestrained underfoot. The teenagers are mostly the tough guys and girls who sit in the back of the class, get ignored, and drop out early, but on this night they're all at the church dressed in their best.

Unvarnished, like a lot of the people Jesus brought his message to. And of course, there's always a fish fry and barbecue after the service

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Good Night!

Merry Christmas to you and your family too GrayMouser and thank you for sharing this with us. It is wonderful how Christmas seems to be able to bind people together and give them a purpose, even if it's only for one day. Makes one able to believe in the best!

Just got home from work, all I need to do is wrap that last gift, change in something a little more festive and go down to dinner.

So Merry Christmas to all mooters! And have a great evening.

You too! Are you going to church tonight, or are you not that much of a churchgo-er?
What are you going to eat?

We're not church-goers. Not very religous to start with either and the pastor at the church here... naah. We prefer spending quality family time together.

Tonight's dinner is soup, fondue and cream cake for dessert.

Ooh nice! We never have fondue. I never ate it before. But perhaps that's because none of us likes cheese... And cream cake sounds good too! My mother decided on the menu we are going to cook tomorrow.
Hehe, until yesterday my mum said I would be the one cooking, but now she suddenly had a change of heart and did not only decide to help me cook, she completely decided on a menu without even consulting with me.

Can I come to your house!? *drools*

Santa Claus, is it true that you live in Kyrgyzstan? I always thought you lived in the North Pole, which is in Canada of course. Then again, those misguided Swedes will tell people you live in Lappland.

In all the debate though, we forget that you are not from any country.

I'm not Santa, but you really wouldn't want him to live in Kyrgyzstan now would you? What are you going to tell the kids if they ask you about where Santa comes from? Kyrgyzstan is unpronouncable! ( No offense to people from that country who believe it's perfectly pronouncable) Let's just stick to the Northpole and let Santa have his secrets

I just took the brocoli-potato muffins out of the oven. I think it is part of my mothers latest "get my sister to eat brocoli" scheme. I HAD to make them and I wasn't allowed to tell my sister what is in it... I don't think it's going to work though. But the rest of dinner smells great: rollade, potato-balls, haricot verts, the muffin thingies, carrots and some other colorful veggies. I'm a pretty good cook if I may say so myself. As long as I have to cook for others that is. When I cook for myself I either experiment or cook as simple as possible by throwing everything together, so that often doesn't work out that well.
This is going to be a great Christmas dinner though! Quite different from Christmas in Japan...

Merry Rockin' Christmas from Wichita!

This is really cool, I actually kinda know the guy who did these lights. I've seen the lights in person, too. It's amazing.
