So, of course, nothing is that straight-forward: first of all, how do we know how to distinguish between effects caused by humanity and other effects? That is, how do we make sure we're not too conservative in our conservation efforts? And to what extent are we 'part of nature', is it only the effects the industrialised world has that need to be considered? Those are just a fraction of the philosophical questions conservation biologists work with: more direct questions, though, are those about money: where do we get the money? And more importantly: how do we get the money to preserve all that life that is crucial without being cute and furry? I have feeling this should be discussed somewhere else.. X) (and I'm always happy to enlighten someone. )

I'd say that we are definitely a part of nature in every way since we too are animals. In terms of conservation, I'd like to see a bit less romantic and a bit more pragmatic. There are many important reasons to preserve some level of wildlife, both animal and plant, for the healthy survival of our own species, but if you don't approach it realistically, admitting that many species are doomed to be eventually lost, you lose sight of the big picture.

That dog must be so dizzy! @_@ He made ME dizzy, just by looking at him...
Nautipus, I once had a goose attacking me out of nowhere and it scared the hell out of me, since then I'm even scared of pigeons coming towards me... (it's the same movement if they are to take flight)

I had a goose chase me from across a lake. It flew all the way across and chased me and my sister. I had fun.

This must be the coolest insect I've seen (and yes, I might be a bit biased.. But who isn't?):

Oh, no.. I've never seen anything like that before. The bias is caused by my interest in ants (and everything that mimics them)..
I'd love to see one. Only found in South America, though.

This is really no news, but:
Noah was probably happy that he didn't have to take fishes onto his Ark: my, what a tough job it would've been with all those sexes, the sex reversals, hermaphroditism etc.! I'm so enjoying this book.. (Reading: Intersexuality in the Animal Kingdom, 1975)

The land snails may have caused a problem, though.
