Yup! I certainly recognise your name!

I'm only a casual lurker of SF at the mo'..........but I did have a run-in with RobRoy a couple of times when I posted there (never get into a discussion with JonBon when there is a ban on political discussion )...I'll prolly be drifting back over there in a month or two.

I agree with Rian that the 'light' threads are a good way for newbies to get to know us here. I cerrtainly like the venting thread and it does make you feel better when people are sympathetic.
I also like the PG-13 rating. I certainly read a lot of stuff which has a rating much greater than that, but there many people on the 'moot who are younger than 13. I'm sure if their parents found out that this board was R rated or something, they wouldn't let them read this MB. And then they wouldn't learn all the interesting Tolkien stuff, which is sad.
I get nervous when I start a thread because I feel bad if it's been done before. I search beforehand, but sometimes the key words may be different, so it can make it difficult to establish if your thread idea has been done.

I posted in Athrabeth after I had lurked for several months and then made some minor posts here and there.

Perhaps add a bit in the Entmoot rules on that (just to give the mods something to quote to an unruly poster - i.e., "Unruly poster, this thread belongs to XYZ, and she has asked that people don't talk about this; could you please stick to the topic.") Also to give the thread-starter the authority to ask an unruly poster to settle down.
This idea carries the same problem that Khamul hinted at earlier......Entmoot is a twenty-four hour thing, They-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed are not online twenty-four hours, neither will the thread starter. (During my fave 'mooting hours, UK time 11am-2.00 pm, we only see the european mods).......if thread starters become responsible for their threads, they are going to need to put a lot of hours in :/

Thread starters don't HAVE TO mod there one threads - but if they notice a thread they started going off topic - they should say something.

Reminders of correct posting behavior are still effective one, two, or even three days after the problems arise. (IMO) Just knowing the fact that "rule breaking" will not be tolerated, will go a long way in cleaning things up.

No, I didn't mean it that way. I meant that thread starters should not hesitate to (politely) speak up if posts start coming in that they don't like because they aren't in keeping with the thread topic. They shouldn't feel like they have to wait for a mod to say something first.
