I was also just thinking about the Titanic question - and I can't remember what it was even up against. I think it was a really bad year - and if Titanic was up against some of the films this year - it would never have won.

I dragged 40 (count 'em, that forty) of my friends to the theatre when FotR came out, and now a bunch of them are reading the books for the first time. In January, one of hte girls in my dorm came waltzing into my room, saying, "He isn't dead! I thought he was dead!" It took me a minute to figure out htat she was talking about Gandalf.

I felt that way when I first read Shelobs Lair. I thought Frodo was really dead and Sam was going to have to carry on without him. I still think that's the way TT should end.

So what nominated films have you seen? My list is really poor.

Fellowship of the Ring (8 times at cinema)
Moulin Rouge (on DVD recently)
Amelie (cinema)
Monsters Inc (it's only been out a while here).

And errr that's it!

The truth comes out:
Out of them all, only Shrek, and FotR. Twice each. But I didn't pay for Shrek, I waited for a girl in the dorm to buy it. I'm also waiting for ForR to come out in the cheap theatre so I only have to spend 3$ Canadian to see it a third time.

I've just been reading a lot of reviews.
So, my list is even poorer than yours

Have to say, from the bits shown and said, the one film I'd like to see I haven't is In the Bedroom. Is it really good you guys?

*LOL* another error on the oscars website!
They have the short animated film down as 'Ford the birds'. They really ARE incompetant!

Oh god Halle Berry is sobbing like a spanked child. I hate it when they do that.

In the Bedroom is a cool movie. I loved it. Of course a lot of it reminded me of the fishing towns along the New Jersey shore - even though it did take place in Maine.

I don't know if that true. I think it's a stretch to say that most people had read the book. Also it seems that those who had read it were more like you jd, a little disappointed.

Personally I don't think it should win for best pic. because it's not a complete film, it's not finished if you will.

Will Halle Berry EVER SHUT UP??????

A moral of the whole (after the primary symbolism of the Ring, as the will to mere power, seeking to make itself objective by physical force and mechanism, and so also inevitably by lies) is the obvious one that without the high and noble the simple and vulgar is utterly mean; and without the simple and ordinary the noble and heroic is meaningless." Oh dear... Halle Berry's speech will go down as one of those embarressing moments everyone tries to forget about.
I left at the sobbing and went back in stunned at the screaming and stuff. Weird girl.

Still, at least she didn't forget to thank her lawyer. Or her dustbin men or someone she passed in the street at random the other day.

Well Fellowship is complete - it may not have a conclusion, but it's still a "complete" film as far as a movie goes. I understand what your saying - but I doubt Hollywood would look at it that way anyway. You can still judge it - even without having the other two parts.

I agree Hollwood wouldn't care, it was my own personal reason.

I thought Halle Berry was sweet. At least she isn't all stuck up - she was really surprised and overwhelmed.

I've only seen FotR, Harry Potter and Memento.

At least it wasn't a political speech. I hate when actors get on their little soapboxes more. Like anyone thinks they're smarter than the average person??? Sadly some people do though.
