The word 'viper' (adder for us) may have given you clue about the uncuddliness of the beastie?

I don't mind snakes, but vipers just 'look' at you mean already. The form of the head or the eyes, I suppose. You can actually see them thinking: 'I'll bite you, human!'

Maybe I misinterpreted his reasoning. Ah well. I get to play with a 2 meter snakey next week or the week after. My classmates has 2 snakes.

A few photos from my trip to Oulanka national park, Kuusamo, Finland. I was there on a 4-day meeting/seminar, and luckily i presented my work already on the morning of the second day so I could truly enjoy the place the rest of the time.. We call the polar nights kaamos: this is during the winter when the sun doesn't rise over the horizon and the only light during the day is twilight. In summer, on the other hand, the sun doesn't set at all for a few weeks (depending on how far north of the polar circle you are).

The long winter sleep.. Juniperus communis.

the water is brown, yeah: the water in most rivers in finland is brown because of the high humus content in it. so it's not really dirty, depending of course on what you mean about dirty.
