Whoo! I've gotten really rusty at this. Where's Artanis... sleepin'??

"In the wide lands without, /_l_m_a_i_,/ many strange /_h_n_/ (things?) may befall one, and tasks unlooked for he /_a_d/ on end.
Other shalt the wanderer /_e_u_n/_h_n/ as we set forth.
That I have done, I have none under command dreaded than the man of the /_u_r_./
The King alone should judge me, and him that comes with me."

I'm quite sure I've got some words wrong... but hoping I have more than a few right!

Yes, good! I got a bit more, perhaps:

"In the wide lands without, /_l_m_a_i_,/ many strange /_h_n_/ (things?) may befall one, and tasks unlooked for be laid on end.
Other shall the wanderer return than as he set forth.
That I have done, I have none under command greater than the man of the guard.
The King alone should judge me, and him that comes with me."

They're wondering if there might be a typo.

Good luck with that possible last word...

It IS a typo, 'things' is correct, sorry about that.
Yes I have been asleep, but I seem to have kept you occupied for a while. Good work all of you!

Here is what you've got:

"In the wide lands without, /_l_m_a_i_,/ many strange things may befall one, and tasks unlooked for be laid on/_n_./
Other shall the wanderer return than as he set forth.
_hat I have done, I have _o_e under command greater than the _a_ of the Guard.
The King alone should judge me, and him that comes with me."

Three whole words which may or may not be right:

"In the wide lands without, /_l_m_a_i_,/ many strange things may befall one, and tasks unlooked for be laid on one.
Other shall the wanderer return than as he set forth.
What I have done, I have some under command greater than the _a_ of the Guard.
The King alone should judge me, and him that comes with me."

'What' and 'one' is correct, 'some' is wrong.

Any takers on the speaker? That may help to find the first missing word too, perhaps.

"done" instead of "some"?

"man" for the last word?

Is he Voronwë? I have no idea for the first word, though.

'done' is correct, 'man' is wrong.

It is indeed Voronwë, speaking to the Captain of the Guard of the outer gate of Gondolin. I think the captain's name can be translated as 'Star-sword'.

"In the wide lands without, /_l_m_a_i_,/ many strange things may befall one, and tasks unlooked for be laid on one.
Other shall the wanderer return than as he set forth.
What I have done, I have done under command greater than the /_a_/ of the Guard.
The King alone should judge me, and him that comes with me."

"Law" for the last.

I'm not fluent in elvish languages... but I beleive that Star is "ellen", at least in Quenya. For sword the only word I recall is Mor-megil

Elemmagil

'say'?

OK - now the proper name. Too bad I don't know my Elvish!

"Elemmarie"? (sounds like a good match for our own 'Elemmire'! )

Very good Gordy! 'Law' is correct, and Elemmagil is as close as it can get. Elemmakil is the correct name (Perhaps 'megil' is a sindarised form of 'makil'?)

Val - Elemmirë is Quenya for 'Star-jewel' (elen-mirë)
