That would be Donner. My history teacher was teaching us about how those reindeer names meant things in German.

*Chuckles over German word for 'fat'* I'm sorry, I'm very immature, I know.

Me too

Does anyone know why the reindeer from that poem (title escapes me) have German names?

'fat' is Fett... isn't it?

*looks 'fat' up in the big fat dictionary she owns*
... oh... wait... dick (as adjective) is another word for 'fat'.

Der Hund war sehr dick. *giggles*

What about... Ich bin Dick. *Giggles*

That's a bit ambiguous if my thinking is correct.

Lai, have you ever been to that Austrian town called Wank? Have you ever been to the town Hell, Norwegians? What about the French city Condome?

*Bursts out laughing* I'm sorry, it's the weather, honest.

(Oh, and there's another terrible Austrian town name, I won't mention that)

Never been to Hell (I will visit it someday, no doubt ), only Hellerud (which probably is worse).

While we're on the subject, there's a city named Asbestos in Spain, a village named something not very nice in Austria (look at the picture on this site: http://www.snopes.com/photos/austria.asp#photo ), one named How in Wisconsin and one nameda Silly in Belgium.

Zu dick gewesen ist gesundheitsschädlich.

Really? Must be in Walonia then. *still has doubts, name doesn't really sound Belgian*

Though I believe there is a place called Helmond (Hellmouth) in the Netherlands.

LOTR in Italian is "Il Signore degli Anelli". I was in Italy when the FOTR ("La Compagnia dell'Anello") film was out, and I got lots of postcards with "one ring to rule them all" etc. written on them in Italian. At least I think that's what it says - I don't speak Italian, only a bit of Latin

And as for odd place names - the best one I know of in England is a place near London called Pratt's Bottom

I agree, and my sources aren't the best. Will have to look it up...

Oh... you know, now that I think about it... I think 'dick' has to be used before a noun... like... that is a fat dog.. maybe. Not too sure. Otherwise, i think you use fett or Fett.

Der ist ein dick Hund.

Anyone know if I'm right or wrong?
