How about Utumno and Angband for your riddle?

Your riddle is what is baffling Beren3000. I only know of 4 halflings who ventured to Mordor (Frodo, Sam, Pippen, and Smeagol), and of those only Pippen had been to Gondor. Can't think of anything "beloved" that he carried except for his arms bearing emblems of the House of Elendil. Perhaps the light of the Star of Earendil carried in the phial would serve as an answer?

Is it the Battle of Pelannor Fields?

Your answer to my riddle is not correct. Do you want a clue?

The Pelannor battle is not the one I was looking for. A clue for your "fort" riddle would be helpful. I am not sure what age of the world to concentrate on... On second thought, I will think on it some more before I ask for a clue. I will get back to you on that soon.

Keith - same river, but a bit upstream... is yours 3 attempts by Dol Guldor's forces to attack Lorien, and Lorien's eventual counterattack to destroy Dol Guldor?

I had figured that an appendix buff like yourself would solve my riddle Val. Yes, you have answered correctly...the war between Dol Guldur and Lorien is what I was looking for. The attacks by Dol Guldur occured during the Darkness. The counterattack occured after the sun had risen once more.

Sorry, Keith K. Your answer is wrong! Btw, Pippin didn't actually go into Mordor. He fought at the Black Gate.

Maybe it's the One Ring carried by Frodo? (to Beren's riddle)

If you have the guts to get to the gate, you have gone to Mordor in my humble opinion.

I think that's debatable

Anyway, your answer is wrong RTB. The One Ring wasn't exactly the "beloved of Gondor".

No, but I dsidn't have a better one... What about the brunches of the tree Lebethron? Faramir gave two of them to the hobbits.

I was thinking of those too, but couldn't find anything "baffling" about them....

EDIT: Hey RTB, I think you are right!!!! I went back and looked up the passage where the staves were given to the hobbits and the quote is "beloved of the woodwrights of Gondor"! Still not sure why the touch is "baffling", but I'm pretty sure that has to be the answer. Perhaps Beren will explain that part of the riddle?

OK RTB,
I am going to take another shot at your riddle. This is a stretch but at least it is a guess....How about Kalorme, the mountain from which the sun rises in the east and heads westward?

Ok, lebethron is right. Here's how I figure:

A staff's touch is really its hit (at least for the sake of this riddle) and baffling means confusing and somewhat shocking. Kind of what you would feel when hit by a staff: confused and disoriented.
Anyway, that was what I meant, maybe baffling doesn't have the right connotations to convey the meaning but if that's the case then I humbly appologize

Hey Beren,
No problem on the baffling. I should have gone with the staves before Radagast did. At least I could have beat him out!
Besides, you are creative enough to make a riddle and that is what this thread is for. It certainly had me thinking.
Now, if only we can figure out Radagast's riddle the thread will be cleared!

Perhaps you can give us a hint, RTB? When you say "their watcher" do you mean the one who watches over them or the one who watches for them?

What about that palantir that always pointed to where Numenor used to be?
I know it is not perfect, but it's what my brain keeps telling me.

Hmmm - I'd thought of the Emyn Beraid - but stopped when about to post it because I didn't think they'd ever been considered 'great forts'... poetic license?
