'R you sure it wasn't Pip? I just read that part and can't believe I can't remember. I love what Frodo says after: "Short cuts make long delays, but inns make longer ones."

I've been chasing grace; Grace ain't so easily found
One bad hand can devil a man, chase him and carry him down.
I've got to get out of here, just give me One Good Year!

I think, they both say it. Merry to Strider and Pippin to Frodo.

i think pip does say it first when frodo decides to cut through the woods instead of taking the road... then frodo says it later with the "inn" part, in a reply to pip wanting to stop at the golden perch on the way to crickhollow

Merry's comment to Strider was more along the lines of "Not a short cut, I hope. Our last short cut through the woods almost led to disaster."

I'll ask! I appear to have stumped em on "The Hobbit" trivia... so I'll try here.

Where were they having some trouble with "big people" in the Shire...acording to Frodo?

sorry to interupt, but i just want to try something. You see, my friend and I had a bet to see if a lot of die-hard-LotR fans knew the answere to my question. She didn't know the answer and said that I might be the ONLY one and I told her that a lot of BIG LotR fans knew...here it is:

What is the real power/purpose of the three Elven rings of power?

Er.. it was something like healing, preservation and inspiration. If you do a search on Vilya, Narya and/or Nenya I'm sure you'll find the definitive answer.

* tum-te-tum; still waiting for a trivia question *
