No more than Gollum minded me playing with his. Actually, I am honored. About a year ago, I read through the old riddle threads, and there is no doubt that Keith K is the Entmoot riddling champ!
I probably should have left the riddle(s) for someone else to answer, but restraint isn't always my strongest point. Maybe, more specifically, the gates of Minas Morgul? Gollum calls Sam and Frodo fools – they escape Earnur goes there overly confident – he is captured I seem to recall the gate being likened to a gaping mouth |

Hm...no, you're very close! The Mouth refers here to a living thing...

Yes, mine still hasn't been solved, but people have gotten close!
In the East it sits, where hope will not linger it captures all courage but fools it can't finger all the confident it siezes but on the edge of a sword one may enter, invisible, without hearing one word from the Mouth, who dwells by this entrance to hell.

I don't think I can fit in all the pieces for sure - but is it the Black Gate, and the Towers of the Teeth... with the Mouth referring to the Mouth of Sauron?

Thanks y'all. Praise from the riddlers is High Praise indeed!
Try this one while we wait to see if Val is correct on Elleth's riddle. I'm the best, of course, of all the worst! The greatest killer in all Middle Earth Far to the east is the land of my birth. |

Also, my riddle only spoke of a singular killer. A race would be plural. Nice thinking though. (and ixnay on arguing that a disease is composed of lots of germs) |

Here's another of those event based riddles. See if y'all can guess what it is.
Two species friendship proved to last Remembered from a distant past. Yet good advice went by unheeded causing strife that was not needed. Then a stolen treasure traded for supplies to those blockaded. (their leader certainly felt jaded) Nonetheless no food was sent and a fight was called when none was meant. note: To answer correctly, you must name who gave the advice, who didn't follow it, and the name of the treasure that was stolen |

The poem only refers to the Gates of Moria, aka the Black Gate. Explanation: In the East it sits, ---obvious location where hope will not linger it captures all courage but fools it can't finger--hobbits often called fools all the confident it siezes but on the edge of a sword--Galadriel refers to the Fellowship's quest as being "on the edge of a sword" one may enter, invisible, --The ring makes Frodo "invisible" without hearing one word from the Mouth, who dwells ---Yes, the Mouth of Sauron by this entrance to hell.

"And as for Sauron: he knew where she lurked. It pleased him that she should dwell there hungry but unabated in malice, a more sure watch upon that ancient path into his land than any other that his skill could have devised. And Orcs, they were useful slaves, but he had them in plenty. If now and again Shelob caught them to stay her appetite, she was welcome: he could spare them. And sometimes as a man may cast a dainty to his cat ("his cat" he calls her, but she owns him not) Sauron would send her prisoners that he had no better uses for: he would have them driven to her hole, and report brought back to him of the play she made.I either have to start trying allot harder or stop trying entirely it would seem... I will try harder (but later - it's a busy weekend ahead).

So I've been reading the Narn i hin Hurin (I think it's called) and the first part of that riddle sounds like Turin and Beleg's friendship, Mablung's advice that Turin go to Thingol after Saeros died (which he disregarded) that caused strife between Turin and the Elves. The blockaded sounds like Mim's home - they took the sack he was carrying which he wouldn't be parted with but turned out to be carrying food and I think it said Turin was restless while they stayed in Mim's home? So I guess my guess goes like this: Mablung gave good advice, Turin ignored it, and they stole a sack of roots from Mim?

We've taken this thread over 1000 posts - so I'm closing it, and have started the 'Riddling IV' thread.
