No choice.
You get used to it, and it doesnt bother you, then if you stop and get out of the habit, it hurts all the more when you are forced to pick it up again.

Vent:
Homework stinks!
Teachers never give assignments that seem to make sense. The Papers are all nonsense and the topics are even worse!
Even venting about them doesn't make sense!

ANYWAY, AS I was saying before my computer FROZE! I had one of those brilliant once-in-a-lifetime posts, and the FRELLIN' SPACER FROZE!

Well, I had a good rant about modern English and their emphasis on "theme," which is a useless concept made by twenty first century government. Theme does not matter! A good book matters.
Also, I was TRYING to say that the people who write English textbooks these days are the same people who would censor Faherenheit 451. What irony! English books are now dried-up nutshells of true literature, dumbed-down and abridged, sucked out of all possibly interesting parts to the point it's more like reading a schematic, chosen only for vocabulary words and the fraudulant "theme."

True, but my paper is for science, which I know you love , but it still doesn't have a point.

Hmm. Maybe I can help...what's it concerning? If it's balancing chemical equations, that's my specialty. (Which is odd, because that has little if anything to do with relativity, quantum mechanics, nor even superstring theory.)

actually it is forces and galileo's, Franklin's, Newton's and Coulomb's contributions to the development and understanding of such.
It is easy ,but hard. or maybe I just dont want to do it.

Hmm...Who's Franklin, and who's Coulomb? Beyond me! And Newton was a spacer. They glorify him, but he was just a grumpy fool most of his life, known for insulting his competitors, sabotaging their research, and anonymously praising his own work and criticizing theirs.
I used to know a lot about forces...Seems I need some memory refreshing...

Vent.

One of my very close friends is sexist apparently. A basic paraphrasing of our conversation, prompted by a scene in ER:

Luka (ER): Any chance of STDs?
Abby (ER): He's male isn't he?
Her: I love Abby.
Me: Because... women are immune to STDs? I love Abby too though.
Her: Men are whores.
Me: What? You can't say that 3 billion people are whores.
Her: Well, most men are whores.
Me: That's dumb. If I didn't know you were joking I'd totally call you on that.
Her: I really think that.
Me: That's stupid.

Then we dropped it, but if that's really her attitude I see an argument on the horizon, because what the hell!?

I am more utterly gobsmacked than angry by this. This close friend is one of the kindest, big-hearted people I know and, I thought, completely non-judgmental. Except she's sexist!? The hell!?!

Okay, some background. She has had some bad experiences. Her boyfriend of quite a while cheated on her and was totally non-chalant about it. They broke up. Now she has been on a few dates with a nice guy who is totally unreliable. He doesn't do what he says he will, which really pisses off my friend (justifiably). These two idiots are apparently fuelling her sexism. But... there must be something more, because bwaaaa?

If it's that bad, don't try to hold it back. Will be much better afterwards. (Just try to reach the bathroom.)

Edit: my 700th post.

Nurv, do I make sense if I say that your friend only thinks she really thinks so, because of abovementioned reasons?...

R*an, for your vent the page back... so typical, isn't it? Always hits when it's the most inconvinient. It usually gets me when I'm traveling somewhere.

Aaaaaaargh! This is really bugging me! What should I do?

Let it slide, or confront her?

Sexism really pisses me off. I'd feel like a hypocrite if I didn't say anything.

Well, it is true that men are usually more focused on sex than women, while women often expect rather more from a relationship. That's certainly not always true; it's just something general that's been noted about the genders, very broadly observed and acknowledged by professionals, one of whom I think I could cite right now if you asked me to. I'm just mentioning that this woman has a bit of a point there. Though her generalization is pretty sour in my mouth.

I'm not at the point of no return yet, but I've felt mild nausea since last night. Don't know why. Prolly something I ate. Also on the cards for today is a flu injection, which should see me coughing up chunks a little later. Yay!

I'm sorry to grin like that, but I thought your statement "I'm going to throw up," was a reaction to Nurvi's post. My mistake!

I am sorry about your having the flu; it's an absolute nightmare.

I don't know how I missed littleadanel and RJT's posts when I wigged out. RJT, that really sucks! On the plus side, at least you'll feel much better after you've tossed your cooks.

That isn't the slightest bit comforting now though. I'm sorry you feel ill. *hugs* <gross> If you don't make the bathroom, a garbage can is much better than a sink, trust me. </gross>

I get that impression too, but it's bitter and utterly devoid of logic, which is really unlike her.

There's nothing wrong with liking sex and wanting to get some. That does not make anyone a whore. What makes someone a whore would be accepting money for sex, which I know isn't quite what she meant, but we should think about the literal meaning of the insults we use. This conveys meaning.

I really don't think she has a point. Men are more focused on sex, fine, but that is not worthy of condemnation!

Maybe you missed mine because I quickly answered to Rev., and then went back to edit my post to answer to you too.

And I totally think you are right here and not her... but I don't know if you could make her see it or not

Don't be, it's just a pre-emptive flu shot. Flu season is almost upon us over here (Southern hemisphere Winter approaching).

N, let it slide. It is a temporary, naturally pig-headed opinion that will (most likely) change when she experiences a larger sample of the male subset. Typical woman--jumps to conclusion.
