And as I pointed out the last time you said that, Spock, Gandy's next step is to give the information requested!

Gosh Im shocked this thread has been allowed to slip quietly into the deep after Tuesday's turn of events. Those damn centrists eh? Cant turn the House into a rubber stamp machine for Bush after all I guess.

It is sort of odd. I support the deal, if only because it doesn't eliminate the filibuster (and from a partisan POV, as a Democrat, it's much more important to be able to filibuster a SCOTUS nomination). But it's sort of odd that it explicitly only applies to 3 of the 7 nominees...

well thats what happens when you make sausage...

But the fundies are furious about this. they consider it a total cave in. I wonder how that will effect Frist's 2008 hopes. Amazing all of this boils down to abortion via the supreme court. Is there really even a chance of anything being changed on Roe v Wade any time soon? Currently its 6-3 in favor of keeping it Id say. So the extremists would need to have at least 2 new radicals added and replacing those in favor of it. Dont see that happening really.

"the talking heads" last night said it was a PR victory for the Dems and a lost cause for the Reps. as they only are getting three. Personally, I'm tired.

O'Connor Resigns from Supreme Court
O'Connor resigns from Supreme Court

By SHAWN MCCARTHY

Saturday, July 2, 2005 Updated at 2:37 AM EDT

From Saturday's Globe and Mail

Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, a critical swing vote on hot-button social issues, unexpectedly resigned from the Supreme Court of the United States yesterday, a decision expected to spark a titanic battle between warring conservatives and liberals over her successor.
How do people feel about filibustering THAT? I personally think it's perfectly legitimate (see: Abe Fortas, 1968), but I'd be shocked to have that be unanimous.

Yeah, it probably will be but I'd have hoped we'd passed that stage. Unfortunately there are numerous forces that continue to work towards the demise of the nation as it was founded.
