Hey, I was a Tolkienite before I saw the movies! He left out a lot, sure, but I don't think that he did such a bad job. If he HAD included everything, the movie(s) would be so long, no one would be able to watch the whole thing without stopping or pausing it. When I watch the movie(s), I don't stop or pause it.(If I can help it.) If you hated the movies, that's your business.

As I said - most of Jackson's changes were unnecessary. They were to make the Lord of the Rings into an action movie. I realise that the book couldn't be brought to the screen as was - but neither did he have to make Aragorn a wimp afraid of his heritage, merry and Pippin idiot comic relief, Gandalf a wimpering fool (FotR), and Elrond a holier than thou idiot.

Those are just the nice things I have ot say about Jackson's so called Lord of the Rings. You can get more of my feelings in the Movie Forum.

EXCUSE ME?! Aragorn is the coolest character in the movies and the books! The word's 'Aragorn' and 'wimp' do NOT belong in the same sentence with each other! I am leaving this thread, you people are WAY too weird. GOODBYE!

I agree with JD. I positively HATED the 'afraid of who you are', 'afraid of your heritage' crap. That was just such a load of BULL!!

From that statement alone, I doubt you read the books before the movie.

You don't pay any attention.

I bet you are a Mortenson fangirl *distaste*.

That scene, and the scene where the horns of the Riders of Rohan are blowing wildly in the morning on the way to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, were Tolkien's 2 favorite parts! I can't read either w/o crying - heck, I get a lump in my throat just thinking about those 2 scenes. We have good taste, Elenka

Well they have very good taste. They kept some of Gandalf's best lines, so I expect that they'll be careful of what they keep and what they omit.

The horns I have a little less faith in them about though. I have no doubt that they'll have them, but I wasn't at all satisfied with their blast of the horn of Helm the Hammerhand, and Boromir's horn could have done with a little improvement too (IMHO).

One of my favorite quotes is in my sig...o'course.

Then we have:

"Even the strongest man may be slain by one arrow..." part of a quote by Pippin in ROTK.

"If you practice being fictional for awhile, you will understand that fictional characters are sometimes more real than people with bodies and heartbeats."- From a book called "Illusions: The Tale of A Reluctant Messiah". I wrote an entire essay on this quote.

"Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: If you're alive, it isn't." From the same book.

I must admit I sniggered a bit when poor Boromir blew his horn...it just wasn't quite like I imagined...

"If your pack has not been found, you must send for the Herb-master of this house, and he will tell you that he did not know that the herb you desired had any special powers, but that it is called westmansweed by the vulgar, and galenas by the noble, and other names in other tongues more learned, and after reciting a few half-forgotten rhymes which he does not understand, he will leave you to reflect upon the history of tongues. And so now must I." - Aragorn, RotK

Hey Elenka and Rian, if PJ leaves that scene out, can I help organize the lynch mob? Pretty please?
