*passes snacks and indicates fruitplate on the sideboard" Help yourself. Pet birds? Wild birds? I have a couple of chickens, but I also provide habitat for songbirds in this area. This year the hedges are a mess, which means many happy mockingbirds, lol.

Oh well, I am resigned to intensive therapy; but at least I got all the doctors to finally pull their heads out of their asses and finally agree on surgery not being necessary.

I went to the film with my sister after all. There was an early showing of a different film (she wanted to see Hancock which is only at 21.30 but instead we went to Mamma Mia at 19.45) and it was great fun.
Actually, the fun started at my grandmother's with a lot of sillyness from all sides I love my family! Anyways... *tackles Sis, Acally and Gwai* Yo. Didn't expect to come back here today anymore. EDIT: Sane, yay! No surgery? This needs a party! *throws flowers around*

I don't get that not strong on strangers comment, but... *hugs Sis* I hope it'll work out somehow. I'm sure it will!

I'm saying "I don't much like strangers".
I get so tired of BS, you've no idea.

I don't mind strangers, but I'm really possessive and I don't like outsiders coming between my family and me. *seriously disliked the guy that married her favourite cousin*
Anyway, you've come to the right place to relax! *takes Sis over to a comfortable sofa and offers her a cup of tea, a massage or a foot bath* There, sit down and think of something else! How are your gardens? Anything blooming in particular?

Oh, the gardens are amazing, right now. Flowering hedges of rose of sharon, borders of day lillies, oriental lillies, purple hosta, gladiola, babies breath, monarda...it's awesome.

Nice! Piccies? *puppy eyes*
(Don't feel pressured please!) Talking of flower piccies: I still have that close up of the purple flower we talked about last Teacup. I went back to take a better picture. Still have to put it on my comp though, but please keep reminding me. I might actually do it then sometime soon

But veggies are good too. Any carrots? Or broccoli?

*grump grump grump*
Grr...I hate the way they just use slightly low mezzos, and usually pretty boring ones at that, for the alto solos, especially in old recordings. Grarph! *grump*

Gwai, my dear pal...
It's called Period Practice Performance. The old recordngs are not as "historically-informed" as the new period-instuments movement, because the conducting of those ages was informed by the weighty, big-boned style conducting tradition that stemmed from The Wagner Era. Now there are performances of Baroque, Classical, and even Romantic music that are informed by: the correct lettering of the score's notes and tempos; placement of instruments as informed by historical performances from the respective era; and insturments that were made in the time period of the music beign performed. Back in the day of The Good Ole' Boys Conducting...altos? mezzos? "who gives a frig! It's the notes matey, that matters!"

Of course also keeping in mind that some of our 'period' practices are only supposition.
For instance we have -suggestions- that possibly vibrato was not taught and was widely discouraged in the early periods of music, but we don't have proof. Or we don't know for absolutely certain what pace Mozart was actually thinking of for his piano works, but we've got a few clues. To be honest I prefer what we now consider authentic performances of the music, but at the same time I'm not sure that makes the other performances any less valid whether they're right or wrong. Depends on the ear. |

EXCEPT those who use barely-lower-than-average mezzos for the alto part.

Well, naturally, except for them.
