well it has been a hilarious farce the whole wedding: almost enough to want to keep them for comedy value.

we could make a movie, have elrond from pj's play Big ears and have noddy screenplay it with Haldir and arwen do continuity, Denethor the fire-juggling entertainment at the wedding and shadowfax play camilla.

Ricky tomlinson as the royal dad : duke of diplomacy ("My arse!")
and the queen to play herself (just to see her along side Ricky Tomlinson!)

it'd be a right royal carry-on

Nice to see that the level of debate has matured so much while I've been away (This isn't aimed at you guys in particular).

Republicanism has some interesting points to make, and some useful questions to ask, about the way we are governed. What could be a more important discussion for a grown-up country to have with itself? Instead we get name-calling and cheap personal jokes which usually have slightly disturbing overtones of playground bullying, not to mention sexism. Our level of public discourse hasn't moved beyond an inability to look past people (and even then, only at their physical appearance) to the principles of a debate, with all the sophistication of a tabloid headline writer whose job is to find a rhyme for 'tits'. Not one of those interesting points has been raised, nor any of those useful questions asked, in the run up to this wedding. There has been nothing but spite and schadenfreude and sanctimonious claptrap based on personal prejudice, not informed opinions. Surely this is no way for a mature country to conduct its public life? If republicans want to have a serious debate on the monarchy, they need to start behaving like serious people.

Interesting perspective: it's all a load of trivialised pish so it's the republicans' fault??

It's all the pro-Royalist propaganda (from Stephen Fry's nauseating brown-nosery on Parkinson to the News of the Screws latest snaps of Prince Williams' girlfriend's pants) that is relentlessly trivialising. Indeed, what is the Monarchy but a personality cult dressed up in abstraction?

We know that most people want to keep the monarchy, we have to put up with this crap constantly, so please, at least let us take the piss out of them.

So anyway, Charles is more the Neil character. Anyone for sustainable organic lentils?

On a positive note, IMO; at last two people who have been in love for decades, are together. Why they just didn't do this 30 yrs. ago is beyond me but then I'm here and they're there.

i think the two reasons they didn't was a) the queen didn't want them to and b) the queen forced charles into serving on the hms minerva

the two seem to be interelated

It doesn't seem the HRH has gotten her wish on any of these marriages. A shame for all that discomfort, etc. to happen to one family. Now don't jump, I'm thinking of them as a family.

Yep, the kids like her but did you notice HRH deliberately stepping aside when they attempted to pose for a photo op on the steps of the cathedral? It was noted my myself and the commentators on FOX.

Thanks. I guess that's why we're not a part of the Empire. OH, and I got the ER from the Bobbies hat device. I'll just stick to our little mud pile here.

IMO and the BTA's, the monarchy brings in a bit of quid. I like the idea that your monarchs aren't like those on the Continent....in regal ways.
