That would make sense because it hangs above an altar in the city Gent (or Ghent in English.) The name 'Lam Gods' (lit: Lamb of God) is derived from the scene in the middle pannel where everyone worships the divine lamb.

It's a very famous painting in Belgium because the theft of one of the left pannels known as 'De Rechtvaardige Rechters' (lit: The Just Judges) caused enormous commotion. The thief confessed the theft on his death bed and left IIRC a riddle that was to lead to the painting (or was unable to fully disclose the hiding place of the panel due to an interruption, I can't remember entirely).

People have searched for the pannel for years and even nowadays you can still hear on the news that someone thinks he has a new lead to where the painting is stored. But to this day 'De Rechtvaardige Rechters' remains missing, a replica now hangs in its place. Whatever happened to the painting is one of Belgium's most intruiging mysteries.

Sorry, that probably doesn't interest people much, but it does explain why I immediatly recognized it.

As for the new entry, finding a good one was bloody hard: I just liked to many. But here it is: (and I hope it wasn't done before already)

I don't ever remember having seen this gorgeous painting, but for some reason I immediately think of the Lady of Shallott.

You're close, time-wise I think. Yet it is not the lady of Shalot.

I think this is "La Belle Dame sans merci". Weird poem. I'm doing a search for the artist... Frank Cowper. There are also versions by John William Waterhouse and Sir Frank Dicksee that are cool.

I was first intorduced to the piece through the poem...kinda trippy. I felt sorry for the knight. him and his pointy steel shoes.

It's beautiful, is what it is. I'm thinking Picasso, Braque, or Kandinsky, and I'm probably incorrect on all three. I love that painting, though; great pick Elanor!

Elanor, what's that gorgeous painting you submitted?

Here's another one 4 you guys; I've been to see this at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and sat in front of it for ages, sketching it and just reveling in this private, thoughtful moment the painter has captured. I love this painting.

This thread's been slumbering a bit as of late... here's a relatively easy one; I just love this work so much. It warms you up, just to look at it.

Oh, that one's Georgia O'Keefe, isn't it? I agree, the colours are so gorgeous and bright

Sorry, I kind of lost track of it... let me look it up again and get back to you. Both of those are neat paintings, Lotesse.

doesn't look like a Vermeer to me... that candle makes me think of Georges de La Tour, his work always seems to have candlelight in it....

Sun-star got the second red one, it's Georgia O'Keefe all right! But the other one isn't Vermeer...

The one I put up was Blind Willy's (middle panel) by Alfred Gockel.

The Georgia O'Keefe one is Red Canna.

I'm not sure about the other one.
