I was ready to post the same thing Sminty. Why haven't more people wanted Smaug? After all, a lot of tattoos are of dragons (I may have just answered my own question) an if your looking for a LotR reference, I would think Smaug's the way to go.
I'd also think that more people would want the Tolkien rune. I draw that all over the place as it is, and might not mind having it etched in my flesh. But I've a while to consider it.

The Smaug is very cool and Ilike the Tolkien rune, though personally I wouldn't really want them permanetly tatooed to my skin.

That would be a pretty cool tattoo, smaug I mean. I go on leave pretty soon (Yee-Haw!!!!!!!!!!!!), and I had planned on getting my name (Bill) tattooed on my back, right below my neck, in tengwar, which looks cool (you have to sound it out, I could give the names, but I havent got the books here)
Also, I was thinking of getting Glorfindel and the Balrog by Alan Lee(?) tattooed on my back (the rest of it), but that will take some time (and money _

Whoa.... I saw the Smaug, and did a double take, because my copy of the Hobbit is shibby: It's hardcover and green, with that Smaug in gold on the front.

i'm getting a smaug tattoo
i have an idea for a smaug tattoo. it's going to be the picture of smaug from bilbo's map in the movie. you know in fellowship where gandalf comes into bag end and picks up a map of the lonley mountain region? there you will see the magnificent smaug i will be proudly sporting across my upper back.
i like the idea also of a sprig of elanor. does anyone know what it looks like? where can i find a pic? my friend has one of a heart with a banner across it inscribed "speak friend and enter". another friend has the leaf brooch from the fellowships' cloaks. |

I like that idea, of the heart with "speak friend and enter"; very cool. For a while now, and with the help of Katya here on the Moot who writes Tengwar just beautifully, I've been getting a tat design put together that will be my homegirl's nickname and my nickname written in Tengwar. Everyone I know has some tattoo or other; my sister's got Nine Inch Nails and a huge Star of David among other things, my best friend has all kinds, but me - I've been tattoo-free my whole life. If I get this Tengwar tat it'll be my first.
