Romanian Kalashnikov rifles... my man was in the Romanian revolution in 1989, he was there to witness it begin, when the army guys shot that priest; He says his Kalashnikov automatic rifle was like an extension of his body during that time. He had a hard time adjusting to life in the U.S. initially, when he first came here.

Timisoara is my boyfriend's birth town. And yes, he was there, seeing his friends slaughtered and fighting for the end of communist tyranny in his country. And no, he didn't see you there. Do you have any comments about Kalashnikov rifles to input here, Spock?

Do you really? It's my man's favourite combat weapon. Can you put up a picture of the type/model of the one you have? I want to see...

b) I've known those who have 'picked up' one to use as traditionally they are not US weapons. c) Currently I feel the MP5 a reliable tool.

Thank you, Spock! That looks like a pretty compact, efficient, very deadly war tool there, in that photo. Is that MP5 one of the ones that is made in Russia, or in Romania? Where do they make that gun there...

here's a good pix The Heckler und Koch submachine gun, MP-5, is one of the most famous and wide-spread firearms of its class, developed since the Second World War. Its development began circa 1964 under the company designation HK MP-54, or simply HK 54. In the 1966, German police and Border Guard adopted the HK 54 as the MP-5, and it was originally available in two forms - MP-5 with fixed buttstock and MP-5A1 with retractable buttstock. Some years later HK slightly upgraded the design of MP-5, replacing the sights (from flip-up open notch rear and blade front to drum-type diopter rear and hooded post front) and the muzzle (replacing the two-slot muzzle compensator to the tree-lugs QD silencer mount without compensator). Other improvements made over the time concerned the magazines (early type magazines were of straight box type, latter - of curved box type for improved reliability). The trigger units also were upgraded - from original stamped steel with plastic grip to the all-plastic units, integral with grip, and with various fire modes and marking. Over the years MP-5 were adopted by the huge numbers of police, security and military forces around the world, including the German police and border guard, British police and elite Army SAS units, American police, FBI, Navy and Marine Corps, and many, many others. MP-5 is still manufactured in Germany by the HK itself, and also licensed to Greece, Iran, Pakistan and Mexico. The only real rival to the MP-5 in the terms of proliferation across the world is the famous Israeli UZI submachine gun.

Yes, that's what I meant, Shah, like a comparable pic from Google Images or something.
Spock, thanks for all that info & history about the MP-5. I do so love when the knowledgable ones around here contribute stuff about things I'm interested in. Thanx!

What I had and my brother is now..."keeping" (read stuffed in closet) for me is a WASR-10 high capacity model 2. It has a pistol grip and buttstock, no thumbhole stock (those annoy the crap out of me). Its an old work horse of a gun, and it has since had many...er...tinkering improvements done by myself and my brothers.

Yes Grey Wolf, this is totally the right thread for that pic! That's a sleek looking tank, there. Very cool.
Shah, that's like the way my own baby brothers do with their guns. They love to fiddle with them and trick them out. My whole family back east are card-carrying NRA people. They all - even my mother! like to go out together on Sundays after church and shoot all their guns at a big natural range. I went with them once, last time I visited my family which was like five years ago, and especially my brothers were quite a sight, with their jerry-rigged weaponry, blasting the hell out of the cliffs, like crazed Sinn Feiners. Gotta watch out for them crazy Irish boys, man.

I don't even want to know about their hunting habits. You know me, I am an animal freak and if they want to hunt, good on 'em but I don't want to hear about it, or witness it. I used to go hunting with my ex-boyfriend, the Greek guy, and while I was a sport and hunted right alongside him without flinching, still I put my foot down when he wanted to shoot a rabbit. "Why?" I asked him, "are you planning to make rabbit stew?" When he replied that no, one couldn't really eat the wild rabbits, what with weird wild diseases of the rabbit and whatnot, I said well then why the hell shoot the poor little bugger? But I flushed out a few chuckers, which he got, and two gorgeous pheasants, which I ate, and which incidentally were phenomenal tasting, so yes, I'll hunt. To eat. But I don't want to know what my little brothers do when they go out hunting and shooting their guns; I would rather not know if they're killing rabbits and the like, for no reason. I like to believe that they wouldn't kill a rabbit for no reason. I don't know, though. The boys are kind of wild like that.

Sweden - Volvos and Tanks! If the tank is built anything like their Volvo, it must be an excellent machine. I love Volvos. They're LIKE little tanks themselves.
Here, here's a little Stridsvagn -
