Okay
FOTR: (In no particular order) Bilbo: Ian Holm (He successfully showed what appeared to be a young youthful happy old hobbit but who was actually constantly tortured by his love for the ring. Oh he's my namesake as well. Ironically my nickaname at school is Bilbo) Merry: Dominic Monaghan (He for me kept the perfectness of the shire always. HE always showed what the shire was about) Strider/Aragorn/Ellesar/Elfstone- Viggo Mortinsen (I think you all know why) TTT: Theoden: (He is just such a tragic hero. It may come as a shock but TTT was my favorite movie. It just showed the last struggle of a dieing culture that was struggling to stay afloat) Eowyn: Miranda Otto (God shes hot) Legolas: Orlando Bloom (I love how he showed an elf struggling with the mortal fear of death and trying to figure it out.) ROTK: Theoden: See TTT Pippen and Merry: Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan. (They both are on here because they showed the conflict on both sides of two cultures who were fighting for the right to live and the right to be free from the eyes of the innocent) Gandalf: Ian Mckellan (needs no explanation) Overall: Theoden: Merry and Pippen: Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan Bilbo: (Ian Holm) Worst Overall: Arwen: Liv Tyler (not actress' fault) Faramir: David Wenham (not actor's fault) Denethor: John Noble (not actor's fault)

gothmog is hardly mentioned in the books at all, the movie sorta makes it look like he is leading the attack on minas tirith, when really it was the witch king. it specifically says something like "it was no mere orc or brigand that lead the assault upon the lord of mordor's greatest foe. a power and a mind of malice guided it" or something like that, but by that it meant the witch king

Also the way they made Gothmog look was totally wrong. There is now way a deformed orc could have taken control. In a violent species such as the orcs it is usually the strongest who take control therefore most orcs probably could have taken movie gothmog down. My feeling is that he was and orc but really really really really powerful. Anyways thats off topic. and I dont know if I picked Aragorn because of his sexioness more of his coolness.

My favorite over character actor was Hugo Weaving as 'Ellrond.' I thought he seemed perfect in that role. Ian Mc... as Gandalf was great aswell.

Top three best cast characters?
I'd have to say Glorfindel, Elrohir, and Elladan. *characters that were actually cast, Boggy* *why... they...* *just do it! * Sorry. Couldn't resist. Boromir, Aragorn, and Eowyn

The three best cast:
Boromir Eomer Frodo On a purely personal note, I really like the actor Hugo Weaving in the film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert, but none of his succesive roles (the morbidly frowning Elrond? ) have really seemed appropriate to me. I still really like him |

1) Boromir - Sean Bean 2) Saruman - Christopher Lee 3) Gandalf - Ian McKellen I didn't like Boromir in the books, but liked Boromir in the movies, and it's all because of Sean Bean's portrayal. Saruman was also nicely fleshed out, and I think Christopher Lee's knowledge and experience with the books really helped and showed through. TTT 1) Saruman - Christopher Lee 2) Éomer - Karl Urban 3) Merry - Dominic Monaghan Oh well, Boromir died, so Saruman moved up the list. I liked Urban; he looks like a warrior, speaks like one and had this noble aura around him. Was disappointed he did not get more screen time. Merry and Pippin also became more than just stock characters, and I liked the emotions in some of Monaghan's expressions. I like Grima, but I feel he wasn't sneaky or evil enough in the movie, so no Brad Dourif here. RotK 1) Theoden - Bernard Hill 2) Pippin - Billy Boyd 3) Éowyn - Miranda Otto Man, I'd ride with Bernard to battle any day. Total show-stealer. Movie also got kinda less interesting once he died. Pippin really became a complete character here, and Boyd's acting and portrayal of innocence is impeccable. Otto would have been put higher up, had she not totally butchered the Witch-king scene for me.

Christopher Lee's part as Saruman pissed me off.
Not the acting - that was great, even though the scripting and directing was (once again) horrible. But it infuriates me that he was cast as Saruman. And I don't need to explain why. You can figure it out.

Well, I agree with you... that always struck me as quite a slap in the face to Christopher Lee, and it's a testament to how much he loves the books that he threw his lot in the movie anyway. Nevertheless, he did an excellent job portraying Saruman.
